Amended African swine fever risk zone area

On Tuesday, 3 December, the Government approved the amendments made by the Ministry of Agriculture to the rules on the elimination of African swine fever (ASF) and the prevention of threats. Changes to the regulations have been prepared to clarify THE ASF risk areas in Latvia.
In the future, all Aizputes, Brockens, Durbes and Saldus municipality are included in risk zone 2. Similarly, the 2 nd risk zone also includes Aizpute, Brocēni, Durbe and Saldus. With these amendments, there is no longer a risk zone 3 in Latvia.
More information – rules “Amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 83 of 17 February 2004, Procedures for the Destruction and Prevention of African swine fever”, which will enter into force after publication in the Official Gazette “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.
* after the outbreak of ASF in Latvia defined quarantine area for zones:

  • THE risk zone III is determined after detection OF ASF cases in domestic pig holdings and feral pigs;
  • THE risk zone II is determined after detection OF ASF cases in feral pigs only;
  • The risk zone I is identified as a protection zone around risk zone III or II.
