Citizens are invited to vote on “Family-friendly Local Government 2019”

Within the framework of the competition “Family-friendly Local Government” organised by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VRAA) and the State Regional Development Agency (VRAA), we invite everyone to vote and express their views on, in his view, the most friendly local government in Latvia. The vote will be held by November 4 at www.vietagimenei.lv. The total competition award for municipalities is EUR 115 000.00.
Minister Juris Juris (AROUND!): “the“ family-friendly ”competition is a good opportunity to promote the exchange of information and good practice among municipalities. In the past two years, as a result of the competition, the municipalities have developed their services and the environment, not only by using the prize fund, but also through the possibility of assessing the prospects of their municipalities from families with children. With this collaboration, families need ideas and new services in many places. '
This year, the competition takes three stages. The evaluation will be performed in five local government groups – Kurzeme Planning Region Group, Latgale Planning Region Group, Riga Planning Region Group, Vidzeme Planning Region Group and Zemgale Planning Region Group.
The first round of the competition will assess: administrative data, birth data, will take into account the population rating or individual vote on local government services and local government participation in the competition information campaign. By November 4, the website www.vietagimenei.lv be invited to vote on a number of (up to three) family-friendly municipalities, as well as to assess and provide their opinions or proposals on services to families with children in their respective municipalities.
Five best municipalities in each planning region (25 municipalities in Latvia) will be nominated for the second round of the competition. The evaluation Commission will meet the results of the 1 st round of each local government competition and will also assess the information provided in addition to the services provided by each local government to families with children, as well as review the comments made by the population, requesting additional information from local governments if necessary.
The third round of the competition will nominate two municipalities in each local government group with the highest number of points. Thus, the Commission will assess the ten best municipalities of Latvia in November of that year. The winners in each group and additional nominations will be determined on the basis of the Commission's decision.
The results of the competition will be announced in December at a formal event. As a result of the “Family-friendly Municipality 2019” competition, five family-friendly municipalities will be identified – one in each of the planning regions. They will receive a cash prize of EUR 15 000,00. “Family-friendly local government in Latvia 2019” will also be determined, which will receive a cash prize of EUR 25 000.00. The Commission may determine additional nominations in one of the service groups to be assessed within the framework of the competition. In addition to the nominations of the money prize, at least EUR 15 000,00. The allocated money prize for local governments will have to be used by families with children for the provision of support measures and services or for families with children for the development of a suitable environment in 2020.

The “Family-friendly” competition takes place for a third year and aims to highlight the best examples and solutions for local governments. On the www.vietagimenei.lv website, everyone can get acquainted with the information provided by local governments regarding their diverse opportunities, offers and support for families with children.
In 2018, the main title of the “Family-friendly Municipality” and the 30 000.00 euro prize was awarded by the municipality of Olaine, while the 15 000.00 euro prize was received and 1 st place in the municipal group of the nine Republic of Latvia was fought by Daugavpils City Municipality, the municipality of 21 Regional Development Centre in the municipality of Preiles and the 89 municipality municipality in the municipality of Iberiles Municipality. The resources earned in the competition are used for the creation of skatepark, playground and educational object.
In 2017, the nomination “Family-friendly Municipality 2017” was received by the Municipality of Ozolnieki municipality. The municipal council of the Republic of Latvia was won by the municipality of Daugavpils City, a municipality in the municipality of regional significance in the municipality of Sigulda municipality. In the group of 89 municipalities, the municipality of Olaine was held by the municipality of Olaine. The proceeds of the competition are mainly invested in the creation of playgrounds.
