The National Health Service recalls that certain preventive health checks and vaccination are paid to residents from the state budget, which provides an opportunity to monitor their health, to notice changes in the state of health in a timely manner and to protect themselves from the diseases.
People who have not turned to their family doctor during the year may go to a doctor for a free prophylactic visit. During the examination, the family doctor will interpret the patient, evaluate the overall health condition and, if necessary, perform blood pressure and pulse detection, heartbeat and pulmonary hearing, abdominal clutter, lymph node view, and press, thyroid condition evaluation, breast examination and selection, etc.
Unfortunately, more than 80 % in family doctors' practice in adults who have not turned to their family doctor for a year and longer have not used this option and have checked the doctor's prophylaxis.
If information about the practice of your family doctor is forgotten, you can find out when you sign in to the www.eveseliba.gov.lv eHealth portal under “my family doctor.”
In the practice of the family doctor, it may also be interested in the possibility of carrying out a state-paid prophylactic breast, cervical and intestinal (colorectal) check to determine whether there is no reason for suspicion of malignancies. Both the prevention of cancer and the follow-up examinations and treatment are provided outside the total queue and the national funding (quotas) laid down for the medical treatment institution.
In the case of breast and cervical tests, the women are sent a letter of invitation in certain ages, which may be restored in the event of loss of treatment in the practice of their family doctor. Invitations to breast-feed are sent to women 50-69 years of age (every two years) and cervical test at 25 to 70 years of age (every three years). The prophylactic examination of the gut can be carried out by women and men at the age of 50-74 (once a year), receiving a screening test or referral to the laboratory in the family doctor's practice.
Vaccination should also be carried out at certain age. Adults should be subjected to a combined vaccine against diphtheria and tetanus convulsions every 10 years, performed in the family doctor's practice or by the family physician issuing the transfer to the vaccination study. In contrast, the child vaccination calendar is available in the “Health” section of the www.spkc.gov.lv of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – “vaccination”.
The performance of preventive health examinations and the vaccination coverage of patients registered in practice is part of an annual evaluation of the performance of family doctors, which allows the physician to implement maximum effective patient health prevention and thus receive a premium in addition to the public funding provided for the provision of the practice.
In carrying out the annual evaluation of family doctors, not only the implementation of prevention but also the care of children, the care of chronic patients, the diversity of medical practitioners and the number of emergency medical emergency services at the family doctor should be assessed if the patient has not been placed in the hospital as a result of the call.
