By introducing a national control recommendation, the municipality of Rezekne will save around €180 000 per year.

According to the recommendations of the State Audit Audit, the municipality of Rezekne has found a more efficient solution to the accounting organisation in the municipality. The municipality has calculated that it will save nearly 180 thousand euros each year by creating four parish associations in place of the former 25 parish administrations and centralising the accounting of accountants.
“The audit helped municipalities to look at their farm objectively and assess what can be improved so that the resources needed for administrative functions are used meaningfully. We see that the planned savings in Rezekne municipality is significant – 180 thousand euros each year can be used by the local government in other areas important to the population. This is a good example of other municipalities, how to reconsider the current approach and to be ready for change, which ultimately benefits our own people, and the result of the audit is welcomed by Edgars Korchagin, Member of the Council of State Audit.
The municipality of Rezekne has decided to form four parish associations by centralising accounting functions in assessing the effectiveness of the activities of parish administrations. The municipality estimated that the reorganisation would be able to save around 180 thousand euros per year.
The review of similar accounting functions after audits has already been carried out by the Municipality of Gulbenes, which will save some 131 thousand euros per year in future for the various social needs of the population, increasing the range of housing benefit recipients, increasing the pay of teachers, expanding tourism supply and more supporting the participation of the municipality in the Latvian national centenary song and dance festival.
