Global School

On 24 September, the Parliamentary Secretary, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, discovered the information stock “world best news” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which a total of 20 000 copies of free newspapers on Latvia and EU achievements in development cooperation have been distributed. After the opening event, the event took place with the participation of the European Year for Youth Ambassadors, the association “LEAVES” and other European Year for Development Cooperation. The municipality of Rezekne was also involved in the information stock. The newspapers were distributed through the pre-school educational institutions of the municipality of Rezekne and schools participating in global schools: EYD 2015, and a wider range of readers, along with all educational institutions in Rezekne.
More than 20 events were held throughout Latvia during the information campaign. Youth centres, Ecools, municipalities, universities took part in it. Also in the city of Rezekne, in collaboration with Zeimuļs (ARPC) volunteers and representatives of the youth council of Eastern Latvia, the participation of newspapers and petitions was held at Rezekne High School and ARPC.
This event takes place in Latvia a day before THE UN post-2015 summit, which will take place between 25 and 27 September in New York. It is planned to formally approve the new global sustainable development framework for the next 15 years, replacing the current Millennium Development Goals. Latvia's post-2015 summit will be represented by President Raimonds Vejonis and Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The “world is becoming better” is one of the European Year of Development Cooperation (PAGES) organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Latvia, aimed at informing the public about the development cooperation policy of THE EU and its Member States and its results, as well as clarifying the benefits for all stakeholders.
