On May 15, in Rezekne Central Library (RCB), a large number of librarians from Rezekne and Rezekne municipality are gathered on a seminar, also from the Libraries of Preiles, Livans, Kraslava and Ludza. At the time of the seminar, the librarian met the current issues of the European General Data Protection Regulation. The Regulation will enter into force on 25 May and aim at equalising the differences in the processing of personal data in the European Union.
The participants of the seminar also took note of the role of libraries in the preservation of cultural heritage, the contribution of cultural institutions to strengthening the cultural environment of Latgale, as 2018 has been declared a European Year of Cultural Heritage. The Latvian National Library Officer Mars Jēkabon shared the impressions on the visits of several European libraries (Poland, Finland, Norway) and outlined the development trends of the 21 st century libraries in Europe and Latvia.
Several RCB librarians participated in the 19 th Conference of Latvian librarians “changing library, changing society”. Presentations were offered to the participants of the seminar about what they had seen and heard. With interest, they listened to the events and directions of Estonian, Lithuanian, Finnish, Norwegian and Ukrainian libraries.
The participants of the seminar were also informed of the European information day “European vitamin” in Riga that took place in April.
