The Environmental Education Fund calls on young people from 11 to 25 years to participate in the new environmental reporter competition and to update the environmental problems of this moment.
The new environmental reporters are an environmental education programme for young people aged 11-25, with a total of 360 000 young people from 45 countries in the world. The aim of the programme is to explore and identify environmental problems, promote solutions and learn modern media tools for informing the public. In Latvia, young people have an opportunity to participate in training and competition each year. Accordingly, the authors of the best works presented annually in the national competition are set up for an international competition, which is assessed by experts from the International Environment Education Foundation, THE UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the European Environment Agency (EVA) as well as the media. The authors of best works have the opportunity to obtain international recognition, certificate and publicity.
In the competition, young people are invited to send works that describe a specific environmental problem for them and the Community, make a study of the causes and possible solutions, showing this information to the general public in an easy-to-understand manner. The recommended thematic orientations for this year include climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution, linking them to sustainable development objectives.
Contest works in three format categories (articles, photo and video), as well as three age categories (11-14, 15-18, 19-25) is assessed by the jury. Participants shall have the opportunity to apply for work in groups or individually, and may submit more than one work to the competition.
Deadline for submitting works to the new environmental reporter competition is: April 3, 2020.
