On Friday, August 22, there was an unusual fair in the hall of Rezekne's municipal building. In order to encourage residents to use high-quality local products while supporting their farmers, the Rezekne division of the Latvian Rural Consultation and Education Centre, in collaboration with the municipality of Rezekne, organised a versatile event “chose a grown-up” for two days, during which there was an opportunity to attend educational seminars on the cultivation of non-traditional plants, to see an exhibition of local grown tomatoes and various plant plants. On the other hand, on the second day of the seminar (22 August), it was invited to visit the rural benefit market, where it was possible to meet, tasting and purchase domestic production, which was grown or produced in Rezekne and Viļānu farm farms.
The buyers' line was soon formed by the doorway Vineta Knappes sieves and Ozolmuižas parish tomatoes, which surprised the variety of color and shape. The buyers were attracted by both the juice, black blackberries from the “creek” Bērzgales parish, and the rubies-like autumn raspberries, which were grown by Janis Klepers and Inta Ranāne from Nautrēnu parish in their home farm “Silava”. Inta says that the raspberry has been cultivated for seven years, but the outlet of the production is soaked. “Sell on the market, we're trying to offer coffee shops and restaurants.” I'd like to offer my berries to buyers directly, on the farm, it would be more convenient for us and cheaper for them. '
The Z/s “leaflets” from Sakstagala parish sold both dietary quail eggs and biscuits prepared after ancient Latgalian recipes - rose and jaggers. The FARM “cherries” of Lendžu parish, which traded cabbages, carrots, beet, onions, apples, pears, is well known.
The gardener, Guntars ants, offered an unusual jam of pine trees and shared the recipe of the refreshing peppermint syrup. “Trīs litres of peppermint or Melissa” are added in three litres, add cooked water or spring water and add sugar to a litre of water in 1 kg of sugar. In the day, i still add a little citric acid or lemon juice, it also works as a preservative to keep it longer. Boil up to the first bubble, but not boil. Well stored and healthy. “But a pine chicken jam recipe, as Guntars laughs, has said pine trees growing up to the house.” “It's a natural resource that should have been used, so i'm looking for all the way to do it.” The chicks must be collected in the month of June until they are resin. Very healthy for different pests and also delicious. '
At the moment, when the market is overcrowded with Polish vegetables, the growing popularity of Latvia is increased by direct trade, when farmers merge and offer their own production and production directly to consumers, in Rezekne municipality such direct trade movement is still only inspiration, but farmers believe that it might be a valuable return. It also refers to the owner of the farm “Ezerland”, Staņislava Igaune from Bērzgales parish, which offered organically grown winter garlic. In his opinion, the cultivation of garlic in Latgale would be a profitable occupation if it would be safe to sell it. “I think it would be a good basis for the small producer to develop. It would have to demonstrate its own initiative to the local government. For example, why would it not be possible for schools to prefer a local farmer to buy products? The current procurement law for such small businesses as we do not let go on the market. At the same time, in the Rēzekne market, 25 cents can buy Spanish garlic, and a man who is not really getting married and looking for the cheapest is buying the same.“ Dekšāres parish farmer Vineta Knippa believes that there would be a shop in Rezekne where the local producer could take his product for sale. “I don't have to stand in the market because it takes a lot of time, but the farmer doesn't have time.”
Inta Nagle, head of the Latvian Rural Advisory and Education Centre, Inta Nagle, is pleased. “We hope to repeat such a trade for at least four weeks, while the peasant gardens are ripe.” I see that the buyers are, however, that it is important for them to choose their own, and it is also cheaper. '
“I'll certainly come here, if such a trade will happen next week,” says the buyer. “But you see the farmer who has grown it all.” It does not always exist in the market. They must be strongly supported, for example, i know Inta, who grows the autumn raspberries, seeing her in the morning and evening, and sitting on the market. If there was a chance to do so in a normal, warm room where a person came with his product, it would be very welcome. '
