On October 21, a youth patriotic game called “New Riga guards” was held at THE Rēzekne municipality, in which 18 team young people from Jçkabpils, Aglona, Krustpils, Luban, Gulbenes, Lielvārdes and Rezekne Municipalities have demonstrated their strength, knowledge and team hardship, living feelings and events that took place less than 100 years ago – at a time when Latvia's independence was violated. The event was organised by the Centre for Recruitment and Protection of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia in co-operation with the municipality OF Rēzekne Municipality Bērzgales parish. The aim of the competitions was to promote the youth movement and the national armed forces among teenagers and young people, promoting the patriotic education of young people and the strengthening of civic awareness.

In the first part of the day, young people, under the guidance of the training instructors, learned the history of freedom struggles, the preparation of an outdoor life, the orientation of the compass after a certain azimuth, the injured care and the first medical aid, as well as the shooting with pneumatic rifle. During the second part of the day, a test of practical knowledge and skills took place in the mission “Remember Lāčplēsis”, which could be tested in practice.

In the “Remember Lāčplēsis”, the victory laurus of Rēzekne is led by THE “Illjukolna Jaunatne” team of the youth centre of Rēzekne (team: Christine Gailuma, Elvita Kotane, League Bogdane, Armands Ivolans, Victor Drozdov and Arvis Boltan), who took the opportunity to visit the air force aviation base in Lieldice, leaving the Rēzekne municipality to the New Jerusalem primary school and the Rēzekne Technical School Joint team “Tiger” (team: Diana Petrunina, Martins Komps, Sandis Zelch, Valdis Avdeyev, Jekaterina Meteļkova, and Linda Laganovska) and the Krustpils spicie team (team: Valerija Ruth Hartmane, Sandis Ozolins, Inese Anderson, Nathalie Lelaus, Emills Jansons, and Roberts Laganovska).
