24.08.2016

For young people

By the end of August, the participation of young people in educational programmes in which the professions requested in the labour market may be acquired free of charge during one or one and a half years is taking place. The State Education Development Agency (VIAA) survey shows that approximately two thirds of the youth guarantee for graduates of Latgale education institutions is working for a month after the acquisition of the profession, and in addition TO 42% of them - in the acquired profession.
Choice between 22 different professions
Admission to the vocational education programmes of young people is held in 37 Latvian vocational educational institutions. There are also seven educational institutions of Latgale region – the professional and general educational secondary school, the construction technique of Daugavpils, Daugavpils Technical School, Daugavpils Trade Vocational High School, Daugavpils Medical College, Malnava College and Rezekne Technical School.
Youth guarantees in educational programmes in Latgale have an opportunity for young people to learn 22 professions requested in the Latvian labour market, such as a masonry, an ovens podnieks, a car mechanic, a locomotive farm technician, a retail store vendor, a customer service specialist, a cook, a confectionor, a carpenter, a rural estate manager, a financial employee, an electric monster, and others.
This year, young people in Latgale have shown the greatest interest in the professions of works, catering services, road and rail transport, restaurants and hotel services, as well as financial and agricultural sectors. There has been less interest in professions such as carpenter and seamer (professional and general educational secondary school), author (Daugavpils medical college), autolocker (Malnava college and Rezekne technician) and tourist group guide (Daugavpils trade vocational secondary school), but employers need these specialists.
Learn to work for yourself
“There is agriculture in Latgale, as many learners have large areas of land to be managed, so young people choose to get a profession quickly to continue their parents' work or start their business. Rural support programmes are useful for young farmers and farmers, but there must be agricultural education to qualify for this aid. This aspect explains the great interest of young people in youth guarantee programmes to learn professions in the agricultural sector,” says VIAA career consultant in Latgale region Tatjana Rukmane.
To be involved in the youth guarantee programme, the Cačani family chose from the Rēzekne municipality, as Elina and Robert wished to link their future to their homes, so that they would be their own owners. The two have tried paid jobs in Latvia and England, but they admit that they are not as good as their homeland, and they have decided to continue the work of Robert's parents on the farm “Ice Bay”.
“There was not much work on the farm in winter, and i was without work, because i was waiting for the baby, so i encouraged my husband and both of them in the college of Malnava.” I'm learning banking knowledge and finances, getting the qualification of a financial employee, but the man will get a gardener. We are currently in teaching practice at our farm, where we are using the lessons learned at school, ”says the young graduate Elina Kačkāne, a young graduate of youth guarantee, adding that the knowledge acquired will surely be useful when driving a family business. The newly acquired professions will be useful when applying for European Union (EU) support to farmers. The caskin family also has a future intention of developing a farm, while Ellen is committed to completing the above-mentioned higher education.
Admission to the Youth Guarantee
In order to obtain a profession free of charge in any of the youth guarantee education programmes, young people should be aged 17-29 with primary school, secondary or secondary vocational training. The opportunities offered may also be used by those who are employed or self-employed. Students of evening school students and young people who receive secondary education in distance learning or study part-time study programmes in higher schools, as well as young mothers, are also invited to apply for training.
Training in the youth guarantee allows for various types of support, including a scholarship from 70 to 115 euros per month. The nurse is provided with the necessary training tools, free living in the service hotel and career support measures. Training shall include a 15-week qualification practice during which travel expenses and accommodation are paid, if justified.
Documents may be submitted by the end of August at the selected vocational educational institution. The rules of admission and all 100 professions can be found on THE WEBSITE OF THE VIAA: www.viaa.gov.lv/jauniesugarantija.
The project youth guarantee activity “implementation of initial vocational education programmes within the framework of youth guarantee” is financed from THE EU Youth Employment Initiative, the European Social Fund, as well as the State budget of Latvia.
