Robotics enthusiastic activities in groups of different ages take a great turn not only at the Vistatia but also at international level. On March 4 and 5, THE FIRST LEGO League robotic competition was held, involving around 300 young people from various Latvian schools, including from the New Jerusalem School.
In total, 31 teams from Latvian schools took part in the competition. Latgale was also represented by the Primary School of Preiles, Bebrenes Vocational High School and Kaunatas High School.
For the fourth year, FIRST LEGO League competitions, Latvian schools say their pupils' teams, aged 9 to 16, to fight for champion cup.
THE OBJECTIVE of THE FIRST LEGO League programme is to inspire young people to focus on sectors such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the knowledge and skills they need. The competitions of this programme are organised in more than 80 countries in the world with 25 000 teams participating. Latvian competition winners are given the opportunity to participate in the European Open Championship.
The New Junior School was represented by 2 teams “firefutni” - Žanette Piļka, Valerija Makeyeva, Elgar Bautris, and the team “Shergans AEA” - Arnolds Anufrijevs, Artis Garda, Elgar Razgalis.
As part of the competition, the two teams had to present a project, their own vision of animal protection, which would improve the interaction of society with animals. It had to be prepared at home. The jury also assessed team cohesion during the Commission's presentation, and practical tasks had to be carried out.
Both teams had to demonstrate their robot “robot design”, their programming techniques, the degree of complexity of robots to perform different missions.
Finally, in parallel, there was a robotic competition on THE FLL area where a number of missions with different degrees of complexity were required for robots in 2.30 min.
The most active teams in these competitions, including our “firefutters”, took part in their pre-prepared stage shows.
Another activity that our team “Firesputni” participated in was to create a video with a future profession that is displayed in the form of fixed dummies.
All teams had to present their own table. The “Firesputni” team of the New Junior School was particularly prepared to create his own poster with a drawing and a wish. There was a Rēzekne District Banker, a beautiful umbrella, a pen with the symbolic of Rezekne, a tourist booklet, illustrated books about the Rēzekne municipality.
Rēzekne Municipality is a symbolic rotor for the New Junior Schools and Kaunatas secondary school tables.
The Director of the New Junior School (teacher of robot) is satisfied with the work of our pupils, engaging in all FLL activities, in particular by highlighting professional growth in robot programming.
For participation in these competitions, all team participants received medals and diplomas as a promotional prize!
Thank you very much to the municipality of Rēzekne, Stružānu parish administration for financial support, posters and transport so that the New Junior Schools and Kaunatas secondary school teams can be fully represented in the Rēzekne municipality in Latvian-scale robotic competitions.
We will keep the robots in further diligence, susceptibility and patience, working in a fairly complex robotic field, and, of course, luck and victory in the next competitions!
