Education

On 16 February, on 16 February, a maritime officer Viacheslav Radionov visited our school to meet with pupils and discuss professions related to the sea, as it is one of our country's fortune, which was pointed out in the second half of the 19 th century by the newly-native Krišjannis Valdemars, saying: “Latvia, go to a sailor, collect gold in a fist!”.
During the conversation we talked a lot about the profession of seafarer, the characteristics of this profession, the plus and minus. Viacheslav told him about his work, his duties on the ship, his adventures at the time of his work, both in the ship and in the ports and in the distant lands; he showed his ship and the world's wide range of places. Pupils asked interesting questions about sea occupants, nations, Bermuda triangles, pirates, etc. We learned that there are still 40 000 maritime officers in the world, that Latvian seafarers are one of the highest rated world ratings, but it is important that the sea is the basic wealth of Latvia and that new working hands are expected in this resource. The pupils also knew that, in order to become the captain of a ship, it was necessary, first, to be good, responsible for learning, to read, join a maritime school or the Latvian Sea Academy and successfully complete it. The seafarer's education may be obtained - the Latvian Sea Academy (LJA) - shall prepare the highest-level maritime specialists. The Baltic Academy of Latvia may after class 12 or the Maritime Academy of Latvia: (after Class 9)
Another advantage in this profession – you can live in Latvia, don't leave happiness abroad. The seafarer works 3 months in the world seas and then returns to 3 months at home and the seafarer's work is well paid.
A meeting with Captain caused some of our young people to be interested in the seafarer's profession.
