From 14 to 18 October, 83 Latvian cities and provinces hold a career week, which is organised by the National Education Development Agency (VIAA) in cooperation with Latvian municipalities for the seventh year. The subject of this year is the future professions and skills that will be needed in the future labour market. In the course of his career, the educational institutions of Latvia have a variety of activities related to familiarisation and choice of professions, creative workshops and discussions, which emphasize the role of artificial intelligence and technology in the professions of the future.
As a career week, we have called the slogan “into the future!”, encouraging young people to be aware of the rapid change in technology, society and the environment. The future professions are constantly changing and many of the future needs of speciality are not at all possible today. Therefore, it is important to think from a small point of view how to develop specific skills and competences to successfully integrate into the future labour market. This will be accompanied by a career weekly activity involving a particularly large number of Latvian cities and municipalities, ”says Dita Traidas, Director OF THE VIAA.
During his career in Aizkraukle, Jekabpils, Mursraga, Tukums, Jelgava, Estairs, Krimulda, Stalin and Riga, primary school pupils have educational and interactive lessons in which future professions and skills are known. Students of classes 1-6 participate in a digitally educational play in the management of improvisers, introducing future professions that can be learned at various universities in the world, and try their ability to draw IN 3D virtual environments. But the students of classes 7-9 are aware of the skills that will be needed in the future labour market during interactive hours. It is also possible for young people to find out the thoughts of various contemporary professions about how their profession will change in the near future. With THE help of 3D virtual reality spectacles, students have the opportunity to peer into three contemporary companies of different sectors in Latvia, where the latest technologies are used.
In contrast, secondary school students and students of vocational educational institutions in Kuldīga, Daugavpils, Valmiera, Riga and Ogre have the opportunity to participate in an exciting discussion “the future begins today!”. Inspired personalities are invited to discuss the importance of technology and artificial intelligence in today, their development in the coming decade and the impact on the future labour market. The participants of the discussion include THE company TET robot technology builder and the robot coach manager Inese Zarina, the representative of THE NATO Strategic Communications Excellence Centre Linda Curika, THE founder and manager of the company Apply, Agnis Jakubovics, as well as a number of researchers and entrepreneurs who are already working with future technologies. Discussions are led by the growth trainer Dinar Sager.
