In the International Virotherapy Centre, the Latvian manufacturer of anti-cancer medicines Holdings “Rigvir” and the charitable organisation “willow foundation” signed a contract for granting scholarships for centuries, talented and low-collateralised secondary schools in Latgale. This time, a SECONDARY school of Rezekne WAS selected, with a monthly scholarship of 75 euros to be received by ninth and tenth-class students.

Chairman of the Rigvir Board Jurģis Auziņš emphasizes: “this is a long-term project because poverty in rural areas is a very topical problem. Many young people in Latvia are unable to learn and obtain quality education because of poverty, while helping them overcome the difficulties of life, with their work and the efforts of young people to achieve much. My grandmother, too, was studying and working in a very difficult situation during the war and post-war years, but despite this, she became a doctors and scientist who discovered the cancer medicine“ Rigvir ”. I am delighted that today, thanks to the success of“ Rigvir ”, we can help talented and centred students, possibly emerging scientists.

Vita Diķe, Chairman of the Board of the “willow fund”, is grateful to Rigvir for the cooperation and hopes that this new scholarship project will be followed by followers. “The“ willow foundation ”calls on former school graduates to support the talented pupils of their native school so they can obtain good education and success in life”.

“Rigvir” Holdings combines a group of companies, which focuses on the production and development of unique cancer medicines, “Rigvir” developed in Latvia.

As it is known, only one live, non-genetically modified virus representing the oncolytic Virotherapy sector, Rigvir, is currently registered in the world. Oncolytic virotherapy is a cancer treatment in which a live virus is used who finds and destroys malignant tumour cells after administration to the body.

Rigvir is one of the most important scientific achievements of Latvia in the field of oncology. This medicine has been used to treat melanoma, but has been widely used in clinical practice in the treatment of several other malignancies.
