November is a month of public holidays in Latvia. The Kruku basic school also has a tradition that is observed every year and is dedicated to the birthday of Latvia -- a week of Latvian language is usually held in the school. As part of this, various measures are taking place that promote not only the patriotic education of pupils but also provide awareness and knowledge of Latvia's history, culture and art. All – both pre-school students and students of classes 1 to 9, educators, teachers and also school staff – are actively involved in these events. This year, the Latvian language week took place between 10 and 15 November, the Latvian language teacher Dzintras Smirnov and Regina Ruja.
At the beginning of the week, students at the exhibition could be acquainted with information about Lāčplēsis Day and Latvian Armed Forces, the day of proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, the most outstanding Latvian personalities, the national symbols of nature and the characters of Latvia. The knowledge gained could then be used by participating in the competition “What i know about Latvia?” The fifth to ninth class students had to show their erudition in response to 25 topical questions about Latvia. In contrast, primary school pupils participated in the competition “my homeland,” the most sincere and inspiring words for Latgale and Latvia.
On November 11, all the boys in the school were actively involved in the relay dedicated to Lāčplēsis Day, under the direction of the sports teacher Alexander Mironov. The joy was not just the victory of a team, but also an active and useful time.
The creativity of the pupils and the idea came out in the competition - the exhibition “belts with the characters of Latvia.” In total, more than 40 belts were created, which pleased every audience of the exhibition with their magnificence and originality.
The celebration of the festival was on 15 November, when a formal event was held at the school hall for the 96 th anniversary of the Latvian Republic. The head of the school, Olga Missevich, congratulated everyone on the festival, and invited students to cheer Latvia on a birthday with good, useful works and knowledge. The concert was in the performances of the Latvian folk-songs school, the pre-school students pleased with the toddy “thousand, the present.” (under the direction of the music teacher Allas Ivanova). Each class came together with a classroom with a song, dance, or a toy. The poems in their homeland were read by the laureates of the beauty-reader competition. The school dance was amazed with affection and emotionality, fulfilling the “flag of Latvia.” At the end of the event, the “anthem” was jointly sanctioned. After that, the head of the school, Olga Missevich and the head of the department, Nadežda Chernobrova, rewarded pupils with diplomas and sweet prizes for their achievements in sports competitions.
