28 brilliant Latgale pedagogists nominated by Nikodema Ranana

28 teachers from various educational institutions of Latgale have been nominated for the Roman Catholic clerk and educator Nicodema Ranana's award for the important performance in the pedagogical activity. The geography of applications is quite broad - Dagda, Ludza, Baltinava, Daugavpils City, Rēzekne City and municipality, Livani, Varkava, Viļānu, Prize and Riebinu municipality. The award ceremony is scheduled for 13 September, 14.00 at Rezekne High School. The ceremony will begin with a solemn moment at Nicodema Ranan's monument and continue in the high school hall.
The aim of the competition “Nikodema Ranana Prize for Latgale Excellent Teachers” is to strengthen the prestige and visibility of the pedagogical profession in society, honouring outstanding achievements in pedagogical action, the development of Latvian and Latgalian cultural traditions in the new generation.
The award will be awarded in four nominations:

  • regarding contributions and achievements in the implementation and revitalisation of the Latvian language, cultural history and leisure training in the educational/study environment of the school/higher education institution;
  • on innovation in the educational process (the use of new methods, approaches, strategies, modern technologies in learning and education, methodological work, publications, dissemination of experience, work with parents, etc.);
  • on a modern and creative approach to schooling and training of students;
  • the most successful teacher Debbie (initiative, ability to excite, motivate, motivate pupils, innovations, etc.) (teachers whose seniority does not exceed three years).

On 13 September that year, twenty-145 years, since the municipality of Rezekne (now Nautrēnu), was born to the great Roman Catholic clerk and educator, the Latgale First Awaken Employee, Monsignor Nicodam Ranāns (1870 –1933). In order to honor his impressive contribution to Latgale culture and education, the Latvian Cultural Society of Rezekne proposes to establish Nicodema Ranana Prize for Latgale excellence teachers. This prize would be awarded once a year, 13 September, for teachers of general and primary education institutions, as well as teachers of higher and secondary vocational training institutions for a significant contribution to training, the development of Latin and Latgalian culture and traditions in the new generation.
Candidates of the prize shall be evaluated by a jury, which will be invited by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, representatives of local governments of Latgale, educational and cultural employees. This year, the teacher's contribution will be assessed by the Minister of Education and Science, Ilze salna, the Head of Education, Culture and Sport of Ludza, Sarmitte Guanne, Head of the Dagda Municipality Education, Culture and Sport Department Maria Michelevič, Chairman of Livija Plavinska, Chairman of the Rēzekne Latgalese cultural association, Edmunds Turumnieks, the rector of the Rēzekne Higher School, Lily Zukovsky, the head of the Rēzekne municipality, and the Aglona boarding secondary school, Anita Vaivode. The municipalities concerned are represented in the jury because they have supported the conduct of the competition.
The competition is organised by the Latvian Cultural Society of Rezekne in collaboration with Latgale municipality and the University of Rezekne.
