Implementation of the project “Sustainability of Latvia - educated people and the preservation of natural values” continues. The activities of the project are organised by implementing the activity of the Latvian Environment Protection Fund Multisectorial Project “The celebration of the environmental and natural values of Latvia, honouring the activity of Latvia's state of existence.”
Project implementers: the Academy of Technology and Partners of Rezekne - the municipality of Rezekne, the municipality of Ludza, the Municipality of Livans, the municipality of Madona, the association “Latvian Innovators Association” and the association “Biomass Technology Centre”.
The project discovery forum was held at the Rēzekne Technology Academy on 25 November 2016. It addresses the main challenges and challenges to be addressed at national level in order to build a high-value environment and regional policy in Latvia and Latgale.
As a continuation of the project thematic initiative cycle, a practical conference is held at Ludza on 27 January 2017: how to link environmental protection initiatives to research and entrepreneurship? Latgale municipality experience ".
At the conference, experts will pay particular attention to issues related to research on natural resources to create new sustainable business niche.
During the event, the main tasks of the monitoring of the environmental resources of Latgale local governments, nature protection institutions and economic operators will be defined in order to promote sustainable regional development, environmental protection and the development of ecosystems in the future.
Emphasising the importance of the project “Latvia's sustainability dimensions – educated people and the preservation of natural values”, the professor of Riga Stradiņš University, President of the Council of Higher Education, Janis storm states: “The celebration of the hundredth anniversary of Latgale Congress includes a number of important thematic, conceptual and symbolic arcs. The Latvian state did not exist in one day. Its growth and maturation continue in the 21 st century. The need for sustainable development performs thoughts on human health, education, the environment, culture and balanced territorial development. Understanding and formulating the thoughts on Latgale creates signs for action on the way to Latvia's future. The project of a number of thematic initiatives“ The sustainability dimensions of Latvia – educated people and the preservation of natural values ”is an opportunity and call for specialists and experts to be involved in the activities of the national äräs and to raise public hearings”.
In turn, the Director of the Regional Administration of Latgale of Latvia, Anda Zeize, acknowledges: “in order to preserve natural values for future generations, they need to be identified and managed in a smart way. Any decision must be scientifically justified. Many special areas of conservation, including Razna National Park, not conceivable without people who live in it, work and manage. The promotion of sustainable natural tourism, including the promotion of health tourism, the use and promotion of ecosystem services in specially protected natural areas, is a priority of the management of nature conservation. A common view of nature conservation, management measures and economic development is essential. It is extremely important to cooperate with nature conservation organisations, active and active local people, entrepreneurs, educational and scientific representatives, in order to balance the interests of natural defence, cultural heritage conservation, the exploitation of natural resources and economic development”.
