A regional discussion on the treasure of Latgale landscapes took place in Luznava

On September 11, 2018, THE Lūznavas Manor Kulturys škiun took on the activities of the Latvian national centenary “Regions Day” activities “Latvian landscape treasure yesterday, today, tomorrow”. They were welcomed by the Chairman OF the Rēzekne District Council Monvīds Švarcs. The Vice-President of the Council for Development of Latgale Planning Region, Sergei Maksimov, and THE representative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Christine Kedo, also spoke.
During the event, there was an opportunity to look at the progress made. The senior expert of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Policy Division, Dace Granta, briefly discussed the stages of activity from June 2017 and the results achieved. The municipalities and residents of the Latgale Planning Region were among the most active applicants for landscape treasure, the most active voters, and also willing to share historical photographs, stories and testimony from the family and institutions archives of 10 Latgale landscape treasures: Aglona Basilica landscape, Daugava arc landscape, Daugavpils fortress landscape, Latgale crucifix in rural landscape, Ludza city landscape with lakes and funnel ruins, Lūznavas manor landscape, Mākoņkalna landscape, Razna lake landscape, St Dominica Pasiene Rome Catholic Church landscape, and Zilupes sene landscape.
During the discussion, the created video, which covers part of the 43 landscape treasures in Latgale planning region, was presented last year to the vote of the Council of the people and landscapes in order to select THE TOP10 landscape treasure. This video shows once again that Latgale landscapes are furnished in all seasons.
An integral part of Latgale landscape is crucifixes. For his life work – the enumeration of crucifixes, photofixation and the story of the May singing at the crucifixes in North Latgale – the participants of the conference were told by Ruth Cybule of the head of the Central Library of the Prize. The work done by r.cibule is also collected in the database in: www.balvurcb.lv/kb
In Latgale region there is a large number of good practice examples of the conservation and preservation of natural values and landscapes. One of these is the revitalisation project of Daugavpils fortress, which was recognised as an excellent example of good practice, so in June 2018, more than 100 participants in the 5 th session of the Council of Europe's landscape prizes gathered in Daugavpils to give a celebration of the awarded prize to the fortress in the final event. On the other hand, two projects were announced for the national selection of the 6 th session of the Council of Europe in the 6 th session of the Council of Europe – the project for the development of Stage 1 and the Water Tourism Development Centre “lighthouse”. The participants also had the opportunity to hear these three stories – to re-evaluate the work invested in the preservation of our natural values and cultural monuments for future generations. But the work does not stop. The participants were presented with the project “Actual Values”, which combines six partners – Daugavpils City, Daugavpils municipality, Kraslava municipality, Preilu municipality and Ludza District Municipality and Aglona Basilica. This will support the development of six cultural monuments and natural values.
The Latgale Planning Region thanks the contribution, the self-sustaining work, the support and the involvement in the implementation and promotion of the activity for every citizen of the region. Gratitude articles on participation in Latvia's centenary activity “Latvian landscape treasure yesterday, today, tomorrow” and landscape preservation in Latgale were presented to the municipalities of Daugavpils City and Aglona, Aglona, Daugavpils, Kraslava, Ludza, Rezekne and Zilupes.
