On May 31, the Minister of Defence Raimonds Bergmanis and the Commander of the National Armed Forces, General Lieutenant Leonid Kalnins, came to Luznava to take over the land units and structures of Luznava's vocational secondary school in a solemn ceremony. There will be a military base of the National Armed Forces and a sub-unit of the first professional service soldier in Latgale.
Latvian National Guard Commander Colonel Ervin Kopeika, National Guard 3, took part in the event. The commander of Latgale Brig-Gen, Colonel Maris Simson, Batalion Commander, representatives of the State Police and State Border Guard, Rēzekne - Aglona dienosis bishop Janis Boaris, as well as Chairman OF the Rēzekne municipality council Monvīds Švarcs, executive director of the municipality of Rezekne, Jānis Troška, as well as head of the administration of Lukznava parish administration Edgars Blinovs.
Minister of Defence Raimonds Bergmanis said during the formal ceremony: “This day is an historic event and, at the same time, festival for our National Armed Forces, Latgale and all Latvia. A new military base in Luznava is a step in the security direction of our country and our allies, as Latgale is not an endpoint of the European Union and NATO. Latgale is the beginning of the European Union and NATO. Therefore, our responsibility and our task are to do everything that is safe here and that people throughout Latvia know that Latgale is not a beach or a neglected municipality. Latgale is a place that is important for all Latvia, and not only. That is why we find a new military base here and build a new sub-unit of the National Armed Forces. '
The Commander of the National Armed Forces, General Lieutenant Leonid Kalniņš, expressed the pleasure that the Latvian defence system and the composition of the armed forces will complement the battalion, which is necessary to ensure a high battle readiness. Lieutenant L. Kalnins also emphasized that the infrastructure would not be damaged in such a beautiful place that life will continue to be life and will be a development. The speech of the Commander of the National Armed Forces ended with the wish: “I wish the new battalion brightness, success and victory for a full future!”

The primary task is the development of the unit, so it is important to create a good team. After the event, the Minister of Defence and the Commander of the National Armed Forces met with local residents and provided answers to their questions. The National Guard Orchestra took care of the musical design of the event. The local residents had the opportunity to enjoy the dinner prepared in the National Guard.
One of the five novels has already been completed, repairs have been started to allow the first soldiers to arrive at Lucznava's military base in autumn of that year. A total of 800 soldiers are planned to be taken, half of which will be located in Loznava and the second half of Daugavpils municipality municipality “forest Mackevičos”. The development of the unit and infrastructure will continue for a further five years.
Latgale and Latvian patriots, as well as residents of Daugavpils, Rezekne, Preiles and the nearest District, are invited to apply for professional military service and commence service in Latgale subunit. Latgale Brigade also invites professional service soldiers who have retired in the reserve, taking into account the possibilities of the service closer to the place of residence, to examine the possibility of returning to the military service. National security is our shared responsibility and the opportunity to live and work in Latvia.
In order to commence service in the sub-unit of the National Armed Forces in Latgale, the basic training course at the National Armed Forces Forests' School in Alūksne must be completed first. In the course of this course, young soldiers learn the basics of activities with weapons, tactics, card and compass, as well as in the provision of first aid, field combat skills and several other military training items.
The professional service candidate may commence the recruitment process not only at the recruitment and selection centre in Riga, but also on his or her place of residence in the nearest unit of the armed forces, including the National Guard. You can also submit to the service electronically by filling in the application questionnaire in the “www.mil.lv” section of the Armed Forces website. Following the completion of the application questionnaire, indicating “service ZS 3. Bde KAB (Luznava), it must be sent to the recruitment and selection centre at the e-mail address in rekrutesana@mil.lv.
In the armed forces, the soldier shall acquire stability, further training in speciality, foreign languages and other fields necessary for the service, work teams in Latvia and abroad, as well as in international operations districts, career growth, competitive remuneration and extensive social guarantees. To become a soldier, there must be a citizen of the Republic of Latvia with at least primary education aged 18-39.
