The most sustainable building in Latvia in 2016 – 1 TP48T manor!

Latvia is currently the only one among the Baltic States, where a competition for the most sustainable or other words – the most valuable building – is organised for the fourth year. The winners of the “most sustainable building and project 2016” were announced at a solemn ceremony in Mazmejaw Manor on 22 September 2016. IN 2016, Lūznavas manor was recognised as the most sustainable building.
The ceremony was honoured by representatives from EM, WE can, KM, Latvian designer associations, construction state control offices, Jurmala councils, Ventspils councils, Riga City Council, RISEBA, RCK, etc.
The objective of the “most sustainable building and project” of the competition is to search for and highlight objects with a value in economic operating expenditure, a sufficient amount of air exchange and friendliness for the environment and human being determined by the use of quality materials. There are such buildings in Latvia and their commissioning parties are entrepreneurs, the public sector, as well as private owners. Tender slogan - sustainable = smart = justified.
Good build is not to build expensive, more important are smart solutions. According to real estate developer data, sustainable or valuable buildings are more attractive to buyers and tenants and more beneficial owners.
The competition has three nominations: “the most sustainable building”, the “most sustainable project”, the most sustainable student idea. In total, 19 applications were received, the list of applications included public buildings, private houses, student ideas, building designs with particularly smart solutions and the use of “green technologies”.
Nomination “most sustainable building in Latvia 2016” 
The nomination may include buildings which have been put into service at least a year before and have passed at least one heating season.
1 st place – Lūznavas manor reconstruction, commissioning party Rēzekne municipality municipality, project “Inara Caunt architect office”, builder “R.A.J.”.
2 nd place – Jurmala Art School, commissioning party Jurmala City Council, project “Skonto Building”.
3 rd place - “Zeimuļs” Centre for the creative services of the local government of Latvia, commissioning party Rēzekne council, project “SAALS”, builder “RE & RE”.
Recognition was received by the office complex “Mārtiņmuiža” on the use of sustainable exploitation methodologies on a day-to-day basis, which also allowed the building to retain its original visual appearance after 8 years. Commissioning party and builder “Selva building”; project “AR4”, Andris Vītols, Ieva Springge. Another recognition was given to Liepāja kindergarten “Pienenite” - the preservation of the historic substance, increasing the heat resilience of the building, and the modernisation of kindergarten infrastructure by building a new volume; the commissioning party Liepāja council, builder “UPTK”.
Several objects received recognition in the subcategory of the public outdoor area. The recognition of asparagus and Liene Street was given as a gentle attitude towards historical building materials, the use of time-tested technologies and a great result; the commissioning party Riga City Council City Development Department, a builder “bridge”.
Recognition of the outstanding urban environment and the use of smart solutions was given to the reconstruction of Ventspils big area, the commissioning party “communal administration”, project David Kuks, builder “port builder”.
Nomination “most sustainable project in Latvia 2016”: 
The nomination shall include projects of buildings not yet built or newly commissioned objects. This nomination assesses intelligent theoretical solutions. It should be noted that a good project is a key condition for the creation of a high-quality building.
1 st place – Ventspils music school with concert hall function, commissioning party “communal administration”, architect David Kuks.
2 nd place – wood office building in Dundaga, commissioning party Latvian State Forests, project “5 th Street”, ija Rudz te.
3 rd place – office complex “new sentence”, commissioning party “EUROPA BUSINESS CENTRE”, project “TECTUM” architect office.
Recognition was received by three objects – a private house in Riga, which was designed by architect Matīss Zemitis, the office “ZARCH” on the development of low energy consumption concept in the private sector, “Kurzeme Democent” on the successful development of the passive building concept in the public sector, the authors of the building project “ER3”, and the reconstruction of buildings in Kalnciema block, the commissioning party “MIA14”, the Diana Zalanes project.
Nomination “most sustainable student idea in Latvia 2016”:
1 st place – Agnija Vaivode, Latvian Academy of Arts, about the idea “Preilieti, or you join” - an interactive 7-step method for organising public consultation in local governments.
2 nd place – Riga building college student group on the idea “Moscow Forstadt Interactive Space”, which is a trainer in I.Reitalia and G. Abola. The idea is to improve the environment.
3 rd place – Nina Poļansky, Riga Technical University, on the idea of “Lucavsala eco-market”.
The recognition in this nomination was given to Lāsmai Kondrama, the Latvian Academy of Art, about the idea “pause?” – a communication tool for older people.
The “Building Design and Construction Council”, “Latvian Construction”, “Latvian Architecture” and the Latvian Sustainable Construction Council are organised by the “most sustainable building and project in Latvia”.
