Education

“Learning About Forest – LEAF” is a GLOBAL environmental education programme that smells of needles and leaves, after real forest. It encourages teachers to include subjects and activities related to the learning of practical knowledge, experience and skills when students are in direct contact with the forest and the environment. THE Gaigalavas primary school has been participating in the Mammadaba project for the sixth year, which is supported BY Latvian State Forests and which is implemented in cooperation with the Latvian representation of the environmental education fund.

During the course of the entire school year, the school's natural circle of friends, primary school and primary school students study in nature, outdoor activities, take part in the autumn and spring cleaning talks, make and impose bird cages, take part in forest days, ride excursions where forest management and care are more familiar. Gaigalavas students very much like to participate in an orientation race in a forest in Mammaa, where they can show not only their physical preparedness and luck, but also the knowledge of the forest.

Thank you very much FOR the Latvian state forests for the successful forest day. April 30 was the most interesting day of this school year in the evaluation of many classes 3-9. Under the direction of Rēzekne Forest District Manager Yevgenia Mikhailov and master Jura Mežatucha, students learn how to correctly planting trees: learning how to work with special tree planting equipment, learning the interval between plants and how deep they are to be planted, calculated how many plants are needed for a particular area. J.mihailov, with his children, went deeper into the woods to help the singing forest friends and place bird cages. After the work carried out, the pupils were waiting for a pleasant leisure at the Lake of Snitch, organised by the forest data maintenance specialists Inese Apšeniece and Ivars Seņkans. It was all: the sausages baked in the fire, the familiar games, the relay, the prizes. Thanks TO THE Latvian State Forests, the pupils acquired new knowledge of the forest, its flora and fauna, acquired new useful skills and skills.

This year, it is also important to mention participation in the forest Olympics, which culminated in the acquisition of 2 nd place at national level. The site of the Forest Olympics is the Tērvete Nature Park, where the Forest Olympics finals also took place. The moments of this event were unforgettable, as there was an intense struggle and competition between the teams in the final. As a result, THE Gaigalavas primary school team won second place and the prize for Stockholm.
