Search for fallen soldiers

The association “brothers' grave committee” is an organization that identifies Latvian soldiers' graves and burials in the territory of Latvia and the Russian Federation. In 2015, for the first time after World War II, there was a unique opportunity in the history of Latvia to transfer 236 legionaries who would be deposited in the Lestenes brothers.
Knowing that many of the people have not yet known about the fate of the relatives during the war and do not know the specific soldiers of the soldier, the brothers' grave committee wishes to clarify the soldiers of the transferred soldiers in order to call for a solemn ceremony in Lesten.
At our disposal, your counselors were:

  • Sloka Paul (born 10.02.1923) Rēzekne apr., fallen 05.04.1944),
  • Varkalis Adolf (born 20.02.1922. Rēzekne, fallen in 06.04.1944,
  • John John (born 21.10.1920) Rēzekne, fallen 13.04.1944),
  • Machickis Jānis (born 12.07.1921) Rēzekne, 15. (16) 03.1944.).

We would like to ask your help to find out if the family of a soldier in Rēzekne is living in the municipality of Rēzekne. Let us be grateful if the people of Rezekne are involved in this work, especially the Leaders and the pupils, because this unique event could further develop the study of the history of the municipality.

Arnis Aboltins,
Mr p.i., Chairman of the Brothers' grave committee
