The main prize of the Latvian national theatre play competition was won by the Dailes Theatre actor Artur Dych's play “Fairing Travolta”, the theatre director, Ojārs Rubenis, announced today.
Five of the directors who had been in the competition jury had been “fought” for Arthur Ditch's play. However, the right to study this play was acquired by Regnar Vaivars and it is planned that it will be held at the beginning of the next year.
On the other hand, the second place in the play competition, with only Arthur Deere, is awarded to our own counselor, Rēzekne Municipality's employee Anne Rannai, and the director Valdis Lūriņš has been looking for it. It is planned that it could be held at the end of that year.
In remembering the previous year's play, Rubenis admitted that the works that had been submitted had been completely negative and gloomy, while in this contest it was a familiar thread of brightness that had led to the hope that life had improved.
75 works have been submitted in the previous competition, but this has been 22. The following 11 works were selected for further evaluation, six of which were selected.
The Commission of the Latvian National Theatre, Edmunds Freibergs, Indra Roga, Valters of Valters, Elmar Seņkov, Theatre Director Ojārs Rubenis, and Deputy Director of the Repertoire, Ieva Struk, were members of the competition jury.
The task of the competition was to promote the development of Latvia's dramatic culture and to stimulate the creation of new works, which would indicate today's processes, events and personalities and offer revaluations of the events of the 20 th century in Latvia.
