The final vote on the European Direct Information Centre (EDIC) in Eastern Latgale organised competition for best video clips – calls for participation in the forthcoming elections of the European Parliament on 24 May. The jury and viewers' joint assessment of the best-recognized video for “European Parliament elections 2014”, composed by League Naglinska, Sanita Bogdanov, ran for Lozda, Ralph Stupane and Raivis Rousins from Preiļi.

The viewers' sympathy prize receives a video from Kraslava “participating in the European Parliament elections!” (authors: Anna Bartuša, Inara Paulina, Ilona Cabule, Dace Zeiza and Iveta Leonovič-Batna), for which EDIC in Eastern Latgale social networks draugiem.lv, facebook.com and twitter.com voted more than 360 times. Representatives from the European Commission's representative offices in Latvia rated the video “come and vote IN THE EP elections!” (authors: Eduards Medvedev, Oksana Abramenkova and Ksenija Orlova), while Latgale regional television special award is given to the video “why participate IN THE EP elections?” (autores: Inese Rimšāne and Liene Skrauča).
The best video authors will receive prizes from EDIC in Eastern Latgale. The organisers of the competition have also awarded prizes to the most active voters in social networks. The most successful were Agnes Upeniece, Inga Romule and Regina Volkova (representatives of THE EDIC East Latgale with you).

Video clips were rated by a jury, consisting of Latgale regional television assembly director and operator Sergei Chaakans, European Commission representations in Latvia, Communications and Information Assistant Evija Samsonova, head of public relations of the European Parliament Information Bureau, Dace Skadiņa and Rēzekne county Ozolaines parish administration head, the film “Latgolys newspaper” and “wine voora de vysu” director Edgars Blinovs. As the jury's representatives acknowledged while watching the video, they were pleasantly surprised at the idea and skills of young people in the realization of ideas: “the authors of video clips are perfectly guided in the complex and versatile topic, giving information so attractively and unusual that the video can reach a wide range of audiences,” Edgars Blinovs emphasized. The television operator and the mounting director Sergei Chaakāns also devoted positive words to visual and technical solutions in video clips: “of course, these are not TV professional competitions, so it is too critical to evaluate the sound and image quality of the clip, but at amateur level, the video authors have done excellent work and the visual solutions they have chosen in many places were even inerted successfully.”

“We are pleased with the high popularity of the European Parliament's video competition,” says Inta Rimšāne, head of THE EDIC East Latgale, “for example, in the social network Draugiem.lv videos were viewed at 1355 times, as well as having received more than 660 recommendations, so i am convinced that, when watching these videos, even those who had so far had a foreign field were interested in the EP elections. Video clips have contributed to the people's understanding that they have to go to polling stations on 24 May, as their voice is decisive in order to ensure that eight of the chairs in Latvia are the best.”

It should be noted that video clips are created within THE EDIC East Latgale project “vote and influence”. The project included young people from the cities and municipality of Rezekne, Preilu, Ludza and Kraslava. Even before the young people went to work to create their videos, they had the opportunity to participate in masterworkshops, where, for four days, Latgale regional television assembly director and operator Sergei Chaakāns talked about the design and functions of the video camera, the preparation of the film environment, the frames, the composition and the perspective of prospects, and the processing of the video in the assembly programmes.
