Audriņu tragedy refresher events

On January 4, the traditional memorial events took place to remember the tragic events of 1942, when the Nazis burned THE Rēzekne District Audriņu, killed 215 inhabitants in the Anchupan forest, as well as the public at the Rēzekne prison wall shot 30 Audriņu men. The sources of history show that the reason for the tragic events was the willingness of Nazi to punish THE population OF Audriņu for hiding the red arrows escaped from the camp of Rezekne in one of the village houses.
Memorial events began on the monument in Audroos, continued in Anchupan memorial and Rezekne. The events included both local residents and representatives from Rezekne, Zilupes, Jurmala and Riga.
Audriņu parish manager Einars Alexander Bindemanis emphasized that the 1942 tragedy changed THE fate OF Audriņu: “Audriņu village as such was devastated. Life returned only after the war, most of the house was built 70 years ago. It should be remembered that civilians suffer most in the war. We must not forget these events. '
The Vice-President of the Rēzekne council, Elman Pizane, thanked all the participants of the memorial event who honoured the harsh pages of their hometown history: “" We are here to remember the terrible events that affected all the people. It would be particularly painful to remember those who lost their friends, neighbors and friends. Those who remain to tell the new generation, which is the war that has consequences. We must live and work so that there is peace, not to be a war, pain so we can live peacefully in our land. '
