Education

The first week of May at Adamov's boarding school went along with the Comenius programme school partnership project “Creating basic competencies in career education” from Lithuania, Poland, Cyprus, Italy and Turkey.
This was the final visit of the project, 14 adult people participated – project managers and teachers and 21 students. Within the framework of the programme, participants met the activities of the veneer production site “Verems”, learned about the specificities of the production of musical instruments, watched the birds in Luban Lake, met the opportunities offered by the concert hall “Gore” and the creative service centre “Zeimulas”, discussed the European popular professions and the competencies necessary for them, worked at the conference and creative workshops, met with non-formal education together with volunteers, “friends centre” and “JACi”.
In one of the days, a project final conference was held at Rezekne High School. The project partners presented the results of the project and the methods used therein, as well as discussed the benefits of the project. In Rēzekne High School Engineering Faculty Mehatronic Laboratory, under Sanita Salcovsk, pupils had the opportunity to prepare flashing diodes in their own hands, testing soldering techniques. The work was very complicated, but the university students helped children.
The project envisaged the creation OF THE TOP 3 European most popular professions, although in each country the economic and geographical situation is different and the demand for labour differs. However, the partners agreed that the most valuable competences in the labour market, which can be obtained at school, are language knowledge, especially English, as most European labour markets require it. The next competency is mathematics and natural knowledge. Although these competences are not very demanding in Latvia and Lithuania, they are vital at European level. For example, recently, pupils visited the Turkish city of Yalova, located on the marble shore. Now there is a bridge across the marble sea and there are specialists from 16 different countries, half of which are engineers of different fields. And the third most important competency is computer science, because today without a computer it is practically impossible to do any work.
The participation of the Adamov boarding school students in this process was a major challenge. The language needs to be strengthened, a variety of tasks need to be carried out, living in other countries in foreign families, should be combined with foreign students. But they were done, gained a lot of knowledge and, above all, saw a perspective. Of course, we do not want our young people to leave, but the world does not end beyond the borders of Latvia, it is very large, with many possibilities.
Thank you very much for your collaboration and help with the Rēzekne High School, THE ARPC youth initiative centre “Centre of Friends” – specifically for Jekaterina Silovai, THE ARPC youth open centre “JACis”, the “Verems” and the Eastern Latgale creative service centre “Zeimuļs”!
