Rēzekne will operate a prevention office for risk groups

The Rēzekne Committee of the Latvian Red Cross informs that a cooperation agreement was concluded with the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (SPCC) in February 2018, where the Parties, by mutual cooperation, implement prevention measures to limit the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, B, C viral hepatitis and syphilis, and other infections and tuberculosis transmitted by blood and sexual transmissions among persons using injectable drugs, persons involved in prostitution, men who are in sexual relationships with men, other groups of HIV infection, and the public as a whole within the administrative boundaries of the city of Rezekne.
As of April 1, 2018, at the committee's premises at Rîiņa Street 29, a prophylaxis office will operate in Rezekne, where on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from the 9.00 - 14.00 will be performed:
- Consultation of the target group;
- a medical practitioner will perform voluntary testing of the target group with expeditions (HIV, B, hepatitis C and syphilis), giving pre-and post-test advice;
- the exchange of syringes and needles, condoms and other necessary materials for the target group;
- confidentiality and equal treatment of each person in the target group.
Every citizen of the city will be able to attend the study so that testing can be carried out.
The operation of the Cabinet shall be ensured with financial support of the Rēzekne council.
