In order to ensure the collection of signatures for the initiation of a People's referendum on the suspended law “Amendments to the Law on the Election of the City Council and Municipality of the Republic of Latvia” and “Amendments to Section 7, Paragraph five of the Law on Local Authorities”, in accordance with Section 7, Paragraph five of the Law on Population and Law, the municipality of Rezekne declares that the collection of signatures takes place in the signatures of the signatures of the Rēzekne District Council –

The Commission has set a uniform time period for collecting signatures in the Rēzekne municipality:
1) on Mondays – from at 9.00 to 12.00 13.00;
2) on Tuesdays – from at 15.00 to 12.00 19.00;
3) on Wednesdays – from at 9.00 to 12.00 13.00;
4) on Thursdays – from at 15.00 to 12.00 19.00;
5) Fridays – from at 9.00 to 12.00 13.00;
6) on Saturdays – from at 15.00 to 12.00 19.00;
7) on Sundays – from at 9.00 to 12.00 13.00.
At present, if the council is dismissed, the elected Members of the Emergency Election shall be working until the next current elections.
Last year, the amendments adopted by the Saeima stipulate that one election cycle will be released in such cases if less than two years have passed by current elections. So the elected municipal parliamentarians could take office for even six years instead of four years.
However, 41 Members took the opportunity to ask the President to suspend the publication of the law and President Egils Levits had stopped the amendments. In such a case, the law shall be transferred to the People's Assembly. On 16 January, the collection of signatures on the evaluation of these amendments in the People's vote began. The collection of signatures will last until 14 February.
