The Rēzekne municipality's external communications specialist Inta Rimšāne participates in the Baltic Sea Region Partnership Promotion Seminar “Building Waves 2019” (“Making Waves 2019”), which takes place in Copenhagen in Denmark from 17 to 19 September. The seminar takes place within the framework of the European Union's “Europe for Citizens” programme.
The aim of the “Making Waves” seminar is to help municipalities and their subordinate institutions, as well as non-governmental organisations and associations from the Baltic Sea region, to create contacts and develop ideas for future cooperation within the framework of the European Union's “Europe for Citizens” programme. Since 2013, the seminar is held annually in one of the Baltic Sea countries. In view of the positive results and positive reviews on previous Baltic Sea-region seminars, the seventh seminar of the Baltic Sea Region contacts and project ideas “Making Waves 2019” takes place in Denmark.
Seminar organisers provide an opportunity to meet around 50 participants, representatives of civil society organisations and representatives of public institutions from 8 Baltic Sea countries: Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Poland and Germany. The main task of the seminar is to promote the opportunities for international cooperation and to deepen the understanding of the participants on the European Union's “Europe for Citizens” programme. In order to facilitate networking, participants in the seminar will be given the opportunity to obtain information on the funding opportunities offered by the Europe for Citizens programme. The participants have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with good practice as well as work together with colleagues in working groups to discuss ideas of cooperation projects and to hear recommendations in the process of making project applications.

The municipality of Rezekne was invited to participate in the seminar, as many European projects were being carried out, said Inta Rimšāne: “we are building roads, restoring degraded environment, our pride is Lūznavas manor and water tourism development centre“ beacon ”. It is very important that we have projects in which we see examples of good practice from other countries. We took part in the CRISCO project, learning how to live with people who have different types of barriers to integration in society, helping to overcome these difficulties. In the Nord plus project, we learn how to integrate the various learning subjects in which our pupils speak. Social workers in Scandinavian countries learn how to work with special children by integrating children into the general education system. We are proud of the digital art project EUCIDA, which tells Latgale and the whole of Latvia that there is not only traditional art but many interesting new industries that enrich our everyday life.”

Create conditions that enable citizens to participate in European Union policy-making processes, strengthen solidarity among European citizens, and ensure that civil society organisations, their members and any member of society are involved in the democratic life of the European Union.
