The municipality of Rezekne collects the damage caused by floods

Nearly two nights of heavy rain have suffered significant damage in the Rēzekne municipality. Washed roads, flooded dirt, small gardens and meadows, overflowing house cellar caused serious damage to municipalities and residents.
The municipality of Rezekne has assessed general information on damage to municipal infrastructure, roads, dams, treatment plants, and the enormous losses caused by natural disasters to farmers are still being identified.
Rēzekne District Council Chairman Monvīds Švarcs Friday Riga has met representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Minister of Environment and Regional Development Kasparu Gerhards to discuss the situation in Rezekne municipality due to damage caused by natural disasters. Although, according to the requirements of the Republic of Latvia's Law on Emergency and Exceptional Status, there is no reason to encourage the Cabinet of Ministers to announce the emergency situation in Rēzekne municipality, as THE Minister Kaspars Gerhards stressed, is in no way an obstacle to requesting funding to cover losses from unforeseen events of the State budget. A similar situation emerged this year in the municipality of Saulkrasti, where the damage caused by the storm was compensated, even though no emergency situation was announced.
At the same time, the local government understands the hard situation of Latgale farmers, because not only this year's harvest has been destroyed, but also damage which threatens the situation of agriculture in the coming years. The management of Latgale Planning Region, in cooperation with LATVIA, has developed and sent to municipalities a table asking to compile information regarding losses.
“The municipality of Rezekne shall, within the limits of its competence, control the situation resulting from the damage caused by floods. Social service workers are surveying the population of social risk, the old, lonely people, a multinational family. The request for citizens to pay special attention to flooded sewerage and sewage treatment plants, not to use food uncooked, subject to danger to their health,” - the Chairman OF the Rēzekne municipality council Monvīds Švarcs emphasized.
Following the information of the meteorological service, the long and strong rays have been in the strongest countries in the East since the beginning of the meteorological observations.
