Rezekne municipality municipality – second most active e-signature user

At the beginning of February, municipalities were welcomed at the meeting of the Association of Local Authorities of Latvia, which took the most active use of e-signatures in 2016. Riga City Council took place in the e-signing championship organised by the Latvian National Radio and Television Centre, while the local government of Rezekne is ranked in honest 2 nd place. As the organisers of the competition noted, the employees of the municipality of Rezekne have used e-signatures for less THAN 50 % more than a year before.

Although there is a significant increase in the number of e-signatures in all Latvian municipalities, however, in 2016, only 6.2 percent of the total number of e-signatures in the country came from local governments, so the Latvian National Radio and Television Centre believes that such award is very necessary as a encouragement for local governments.

In total, in 2016, e-signature was used 4.1 million times, which is less than a million more than a year before. Compared to 2015, the number of e-signatures has increased by almost 30%, but compared to 2014 – by 80%. An e-signature smart card issued by the Latvian national radio and television centre is still popular among e-signature carriers, followed by a virtual e-signature and e-signature in the e-identification (ID) card.
