In Brussels, Belgium, the final conference OF THE international project CRISCO, with 10 European countries, will continue until 28 June. Communication and presentations are in English. Latvia is represented by the municipality of Rezekne.
Exchange of experience took place on the first day of the conference. On the second day, it was possible for participants to become acquainted with the various projects implemented by the municipality of Etterbek in Brussels, which contribute to the ageing of the society. Projects are very diverse, for example, three months ago, a game house has started, where any local resident can rent table games for a very symbolic payment. There is an old park next to the city, which was given to the city 60 years ago by a local family who wanted it to be accessible to all. The park is currently being renovated and upgraded and some of it will be small root gardens where the local population will be able to grow vegetables. Bidders for the maintenance of gardens will be selected by tendering procedure, the main condition: they must be local micro-district residents who have no other garden, the garden will have to be maintained in good order and be accessible to the visitors.
On the third day of the conference, representatives of non-governmental organisations working in the municipality of Etterbek are invited to negotiate. A representative OF THE ORGANIZATION'S SWUP said they were working to include young mothers in society, providing them with the opportunity to go to sports activities, as well as providing advice on children's care: “we see that young mothers would be happy to do sporting activities, but they do not always do it, so we are helping to organize children's attention, as well as working with sports clubs to provide new women with more suitable sports activities. We therefore contribute to the integration of these women into society."
The participants of the project Laura Ieshe: “The people and places visited in the project make it possible to see opportunities that can also be used in the Rezekne municipality, making public places more accessible and attractive as much as possible to a larger range of people.
I understand that volunteering is a major role in the so-called old European society. We looked at the example of social entrepreneurship - a restaurant where 80 volunteers work. The institution shall earn income from catering services which are used for various social activities such as creative workshops, provision of aid to elderly people. '
Einars Alexander Bindemanis: “The greatest challenge of the 21 st century is to achieve citizens' involvement in both public administration and cultural and society-organised activities. Such an approach is called inclusive. This is due to the growing heterogeneity of Europe through the emergence of Eastern European workers and African refugees. The inclusion is a permanent topic in Latvia, as our society is both material and national. The experience gained in THE CRISCO project will allow any activity organised or supported by the municipality to be viewed from an inclusive viewpoint. '
