On 22 March, the municipality of Rēzekne was visited by representatives of the Embassy of Canada - advisor Judah Pekora and Embassy Policy and Public Relations Representative Aija Matule. Guests met the President of the Rēzekne council, Monweed Schwarz, Vice-President Elman Pizani, executive director Janis Troška, head of the development planning department Anna Jobs and external liaison officers Inta Rimšani. The chairman OF the Rēzekne District Council, Monvīds Švarcs, introduced the municipality, telling him that the municipality had a beautiful and intact nature, ancient ceramic traditions, a lot of self-action collectors who were preparing to participate in the song and dance festival. M. Mr Schwartz said that the local government was carrying out many international projects, but unfortunately there is still no Canada between the countries of cooperation: “we are pleased to cooperate with Canada in the field of tourism and education, because we are open to this kind of project.” The guest listened with interest to one of the new projects - digital art activities, and received an invitation to participate in the digital art exhibition that will take place in Luznava in May. Projects on the integration of special children in general educational schools, the training of parish newspapers, were also interested in interest.
On the other hand, the guests said that the cooperation between Canada and Latvia has intensified over the past years and a free trade agreement between Canada and the European Union has begun last year. It is also important that Canada is the leading country in Latvia's battalion-sized NATO battle group, where Albania, Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Spain are also participating.
The Ambassador of Canada, Julda Pekora, said that the embassy was interested in cooperating with municipalities in the regions, and for this reason the visit visits were held.
Similarly, the representatives of the Canadian embassy visited Lūznavas Manor, where they met with the manor manager Ivetu Balzni.
