Representatives of the municipality of Rezekne are visited by representatives of the regional association

On 13 August, representatives of the regional association of the Party of Rezekne, including representatives of the Saeima elected by this party, visited the municipality of Rezekne. As the leader of the Saeima faction Dainis Liepins informed, the aim of the short visit is to find out the most topical problems of Rezekne. MEPs looked at the presentation of Lily Žukovskis, head of the educational administration of Rezekne, on the educational situation in the municipality, as, as the Vice-President of the Rēzekne council, Elhusband Pizāne, pointed out, the most painful issues are currently in the field of education.
There are several educational institutions in Rezekne municipality where the number of pupils is not large, but the closure of these schools would have a painful impact on the social situation and would not give any economic effect. Already now around 1000 Rēzekne municipality students are studying in the schools of Rezekne. “The little schools are like bastions when they are closed, they don't have any good, children go to other municipalities, we have only a social burden,” – said L. Zukovsky. In the municipality of Rezekne, children in several schools are studying in both Latvian and Russian flows, but by granting funding from the ministry, this situation is not taken into account. In many places, students have to spend more than an hour to get to school in the morning. Also, in the perspective of introducing the new pedagogy pay model developed by the Ministry of Education and Science, it will require additional costs from local governments, paying teachers. This would be an unbearable burden for the Rēzekne municipality, because of its own funds, the municipality already finances interest education and extended day groups.
A member of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Commission, Economy Doctor Ivars Breaver noted that the model developed FOR IZM can still change and local government proposals are also expected. “I'm with both hands that there must be schools in the countryside, too.” MEPs are interested in the demographic situation in the municipality, why young people are going abroad, on employment and on the strength of the influence of propaganda on Russian television. Several problems were sketched during the brief visit, but the politicians were already waiting for the next meeting at Rezekne High School, so they were promised to come to the local government again.
