Representatives of the municipality of Rēzekne are visited by representatives of the local government of Moldova

On 9 August, the municipality of Rēzekne was visited by representatives of the local government of Moldova – Vice-Chairman of Edinec City Executive Committee, Rodelija Vasilkova, Chairman of the Executive Board of Sohand City Executive Committee Olga Prepelice, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction of Moldova Olga Popovich. The visit took place during the summer schools organised by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development - camps for Moldovan colleagues, with the aim of strengthening the professionalism of Moldovan regions and local government specialists – to provide methodological and practical support for project development in the development of business and tourism development, territorial development and culture, as well as to promote cooperation between Latvia and Moldova regions and municipalities.

In general, 21 Moldovan municipalities, as well as a representative of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, participated in the summer school. During the visit, the Moldovan delegation split into groups and went into exchange of experience to 10 Latvian municipalities – Rezekne municipality, the city of Rezekne, Preilu, Riebiņa, Dobeles, Raunas, Jelgava, Ropaja, Neretas, Aizkraukles municipality, as well as Kurzeme and Riga planning regions.

In the Rēzekne municipality, the Moldovan colleagues met the work OF Maltas secondary school, surveyed a number of projects implemented, as well as tourist attractions – Lūznavas Manor, the large flame mountain, the farm “Ezerkrasti” at Razna Lake, as well as the kandžas Museum - private collection Kaunatā. At the end of the visit, along with the Rēzekne municipality, the possibilities of further cooperation were discussed.

“Since so far, there has been no possibility of attracting funding for infrastructure projects between Latvia and Moldova, our cooperation could focus more on capacity building,” said Rodelia Vasilkova, Vice-Chairman of Edinec City Executive Committee. “For example, the ERASMUS + programme could involve exchanges of pupils and teachers between the two countries and cooperation between educational institutions. Equally useful would be projects that would encourage the exchange of experience among specialists of different fields – our social workers, tourism representatives, education and cultural workers would be willing to“ eat ”, take good practice and draw on experience with your specialists,” said Rodelia Vasilkova.

At the end of the Moldovan summer school - camp, on August 11, Riga took place in Riga, where visitors told about the experience gained in local government, presenting project ideas, as well as hearing the recommendations of state institutions and NGOs in order to turn ideas into successful projects. It should be noted that the implementation of the ideas CAN be monitored and assessed by organising the Latvian experts' mission to the regions of Moldova in autumn 2017.
