Public assistants: aid in cases where there is doubt as to the correct use of the official language

A public assistant institute has been active in the national language centre since 2015. It is designed to provide assistance to every member of the public in cases where there is doubt about the correct use of the Latvian language as well as the support of the national language centre.
At present 30 public assistants are in the centre, who, in addition to their duties, are willing to provide advice on the use of the official language in public information, labelling and instructions for use. The public assistants shall assess the conformity of such information with the norms of the Latvian literary language and shall provide recommendations for the elimination of the detected non-compliance.
Public assistants shall operate throughout the territory of Latvia in order to improve the information space in any city or municipality, as well as provide support in cases where there is doubts regarding the correct use of the official language. It must be acknowledged that the misrepresentation is often caused not by ignorance but by simple neglect and laziness. For example, a word is missing the tops or lengths, but such a caption is located in the view window for informing the public. Such details are simply avoidable, only a desire to see and help.
In the three quarters of 2018, the public assistants have provided more than 200 advice on both spelling and public information.
For their work, the public assistants themselves say: small jobs, many of whom pass by, do not want to see any mistakes or simply burn them.
