Commencement of the application for the competition “Latvian Natural Heritage”
On March 11, a logging on the Western Bank charity fund competition “Latvian Scrual Heritage” was launched, inviting churches to submit architectural and art monuments for restoration and preservation for further years. Projects may be submitted by 15 April of that year. “Latvian Secondary Heritage” is organised in collaboration with the National Cultural and Heritage Administration.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Western Bank charity fund organizes a support project for conspicuous architectural and art monuments, while preserving and restoring more than 45 church inheritances during these years. The support may include the restoration of both the storeys, the headlamps, the orchards and the altar painting, as well as the emergency repairs, the restoration of the domes and the churches, the altar painting, the chandelier, the preservation of the headlamps, etc. One project can receive financial support up to EUR 5 000, while the total amount of the tender is EUR 25 000.
“The preservation of sakrālās architecture and art is very important in order to be able to bring Latvia's cultural heritage to our next generations through time. It is assessed not only by religious people and peace-seekers, but also by history, architecture and art. It is therefore important to take care of Latvia's personal heritage. So far, we have helped the various religious confessions of Latvia, for example, in the last year in support of the Gospel Lutheric Church of Lesten, the Gospel Lutheric Church of Palsmanes, the Aloya Gospel Lutheric Church, the Jelgava Sv. Simeon and Iu. Anne's Orthodox Cathedral, the Culpian Old Believers' Community prayer house, Kuldīga Holy Trinity of the Roman Catholic Church and Silene Virgin Mary's Catholic Church. I also call for this year to be signed and jointly preserve Latvia's sakrālo pride!” says Inga šina, Chairman of the Board of Rietumu Bank's charitable foundation.
An application for aid shall be invited to any religious organisation or association registered in Latvia, in whose ownership or possession the cultural monuments of State or local significance are located. The tender applications shall be examined by the Commission of the Latvian National Heritage panel consisting of four members of the jury: two representatives of the Western Bank charity fund and two representatives of the National Cultural and Heritage Administration.

The Western Bank charity fund organizes a project competition “Latvian Scrual Heritage” since 2012. During these years, the support was given to 49 churches throughout Latvia. Total amount of aid EUR 141 726. As a result of the competition, the Western Bank charitable foundation awarded funding to the following churches in 2018: Lestenes Gospel Lutheric Church, Palsmanes Gospel Lutheric Church, Aloya Gospel Lutheric Church, Jelgava Sv. Simeon and Iu. The Orthodox Cathedral of Anne, the Community prayer of the Old Believers of Campbell, the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity of Kuldīga, the Roman Catholic Church of the Virgin of Silene.
On the “Western Bank charity fund”
The Western Bank charitable foundation was founded on 13 April 2007 with the aim of promoting philanthropy and mecenticism in Latvia, supporting socially responsible action and achieving public good goals. The charity fund highlights the strong position of the Western bank in charity, the willingness to help the public, and its spiritual growth. The priorities of the Fund are support for social problems, including medicine, children and young people, education and science, art and culture.
