In the Baltic International Academy, Riga Technical University, Ventspils High School, Economics and Cultural Higher School and international practical psychology universities, it is possible to learn these professions immediately after graduation of secondary school (at the bachelor level).
The participants of the seminar also had the opportunity to learn about the opportunities for further training of interpreters and translators. The Master's degree can be obtained at Ventspils High School, the study programme “Translation of legal texts”, the University of Latvia, the study programme “translation” and the Riga Technical University, the study programme “Technical Translation”.
It should be added that Latvian universities and universities provide any student with an opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters, participating in the international European Union exchange programme ERASMUS +. The aim of the programme is to provide greater support to students who want to improve language knowledge and raise qualifications by studying in one of the European Union countries.
During the seminar, MR Vizule informed students about obstacles and unusual situations faced by learning and practising translation at European level, as work in the European Union institutions requires great attention and, above all, good language knowledge, which is tested by the European Language levels Test-EN. More information can be found on the Internet: http://europa.eu/epso/discover/job_profiles/language/, where you can also get acquainted with the practices of the European Union institutions.
At the 3 rd course student of the seminar, RA's professional bachelor study programme “applied communication and translation”, Jekaterina Vaļiuļina welcomed the information obtained at the seminar: “it was interesting to listen to how the definitions, theory, principles and system of translation are spoken by other university teachers. It has been said that interpreters and translators need general knowledge in different areas, such as mathematics, music, art, economics etc.
The other participants also agreed that guest lecturers who had practical work experience would be able to be more interested in students in their profession, so that their lectures are easily understood and interesting.
For reference: EUROPE DIRECT is a network of all the European Union that allows citizens to obtain the necessary information and communicate with the European Commission in the vicinity of their place of residence.
