On 25 January, a seminar “Strengthening of socially inclusive Communities in Latvia in cooperation with foreign partners” will be held in Riga, in which partners of several social sphere projects will share the results and activities of international co-operation projects in Latvia.
The aim of the seminar is to promote communication and networking between institutions involved in project implementation, potential project results users and experts, encouraging the application of project results to social development in Latvia.
All who are interested in activities in the social development in Latvia are invited to participate.
The agenda of the event can be found here. Participation in the seminar can be registered here by this year. 19 January. The seminar will be held at the conference hall of the University of Latvia's Academic Library – Riga, Kalpaka Boulevard 4.
The seminar will look at the four European Territorial Cooperation or INTERREG programmes - Latvian-Lithuanian cross-border cooperation programmes 2014-2020, Central Baltic Sea Region programmes 2014-2020, Interreg Baltic Sea Region programmes 2014-2020 and URBACT III Urban Development Programmes 2014-2020 - projects related to the development and strengthening of socially inclusive regions in the following areas:

  • Social inclusion of children and young people in local communities;
  • Social inclusion of seniors and people with disabilities in local communities;
  • Creating conditions for healthy and active lifestyles in local communities.

European territorial cooperation - also known as Interreg - is one of two objectives of the European Union's cohesion policy. European territorial cooperation provides a framework for the implementation of joint activities, the exchange of knowledge and experience between national, regional and local organisations from different EU Member States, with the aim of jointly addressing similar challenges and using regional development potential more effectively. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MAY) fulfils the function of the national responsible authority of the European Structural and Investment Funds' programme “European territorial cooperation”.
