2018 The Rezekne Municipality School starts with a new, interesting, necessary event - the school's kitchen staff and representatives of the school administration - people who take care of the schooling of pupils during the day.
Today there are many problematic issues across the country about the quality catering of pupils, the organisation of school catering work, the eating culture, what flavours or not taste, the fact that too much food leaves “waste” etc. What would be the best option to improve the situation, which we have learned in foreign experience trips, but the main thing that we can offer to each other. With such a thought, the school cook met AT Sakstagala in the elementary school of Jānis KCo, where the school's management and canteens - Anna Golovrova, Nathalie Stirāne, Victoria Healthova and Daiga Healthova - have been thinking for a long time and take care of how to improve the quality and process of schooling. In order to be comprehensive, questionnaires are carried out for pupils, parents, discussions are organised, the school Council conducts raids, while the school principal brings proposals and suggestions to parents. It can move towards a better quality. On the basis of the recommendations of pupils, parents and teachers, improvements were made in the design of the catering process, the improvement of the diet and the organisation of catering. By using Swedish experience as well as watching and analysing the experience of the summer camp “healthy eaten, Boan!” at their school, the school staff concluded that students should be more allowed to develop self-service skills: split soup, make cream, second food-salad, etc. Of course, for this purpose, the school had to buy additional dishes - salad, soups, bowls for cream, jam, etc.
The seminar for cooks began with gathering at the tree, where every ice-breaking activity expressed a wish. With congratulations, “Jeiveite, dzeive” and salutation were welcomed by the head of the municipal education administration of the municipality of Rezekne, Guntars ants. The school director Sylvia Freiberga shared the experience of poll-raising issues, the acquisition of inventory, the organisation of self-service, the benefits and challenges. As a result, everyone took part in the practical activity “self-service at lunch table” and looked at the school catering unit, went into the excursion of the school, discussed various issues of interest, pupil catering. The negotiations showed that every school had examples of good practice in organising schooling, so the attendants expressed their willingness to organise a school cook meeting at least once a year at another school.
The seminar ended with activities in the school's “boss room” where the visitor was involved in the activities of Jānis Kco's literary hero - the human child Bonifation in Paulani's family tradition.
