Candle workshop Kaunatā

14.02.2018

For young people

IN Kaunatas parish youth centre “sails”, a candlelight workshop was held on February 12, where everyone had the opportunity to “try hand” in the candlelight process.
All the necessary materials were provided – candlelight, cotton thread, various bottles, two boilers and candles could begin! The cheapest material from which the candles are used is paraffin, but it should be noted that it has many types, so that the melting temperature varies from type to type of paraffin.
How do you make a candle? In the case of paraffin or any of the natural waxes, the water in the bath is melted (in a boiler with hot water), if desired, the essential oils and colours are added. Prepare the shape of the candle by securing the burner, pour the rendered wax into the shape or container and allow it to be solidified.
It should be borne in mind that when the wax is slaughtered, the stove must not be forgotten. Candles made from overheated wax can crack by burning or other “miracles”. Also a hole in the candlelight is not desirable.
It is not recommended that the essential oil be added very much, otherwise the candle flavour will be too intrusive. Keep in mind the better choice of quality natural fragrances rather than those made from chemical substances or alcohol.
Armed with patience - an average candle at room temperature should be allowed to tolerate six to ten hours. The process must not be rushed by placing the candle in a refrigerator or freezer. Then the candle may have serious defects.
Thank you for all the participants who participated in this lesson! It is always good to learn something new and share knowledge!
