The association “at the landings” from Madona municipality, together with the project partners, “Aborians” from the municipality of Luban and “Lubana Vilnis” from Rezekne municipality, has launched the project “Lubans Latvia then and now” financed by the Latvian Environment Protection Fund. The project aims at identifying and highlighting the value of Lake Luban as a natural and cultural heritage by organising and building activities based on public awareness, education and sports activities.
The area around Lake Luban begins to highlight as a single set, mixing the barrier between the division and regions of administrative regions, creating the first inspiration for consciousness and local patriotism. On the basis of the above arguments, in the context of this project, all three partners are convinced that, on the basis of the planned measures and materials to be created as a long-term investment, they will be able to continue bringing together the parties involved in the monitoring of Lake Luban's territory and will continue to strengthen the Lake Lake as a strong site for its future development.
As part of the project, it is planned to organise a number of educational and entertaining events, inviting everyone to go and explore the surroundings of Luban Lake. Both cultural and sporting activities will be held from January to June.
In January - “winter holidays at Luban Lake”, February - wetlands days, two story evenings will be held in March, where local fishermen will be visited to introduce fishing gears and Luban lake changes in the fisheries sector, as well as to explore cultural history and archaeology. The most sporting event, “Luban adventure”, will be taken in May. The project event cycle will be concluded with a two-day event “Lake Lake Lake Travellers”, where both local owners and craftsmen will be open to their holdings, and recreational and educational activities will be available for two days. The activities foreseen in the project will be implemented from December 2017 to June 2018.
The aim of the project is to highlight the cultural historical heritage of Luban Lake - will be achieved by creating a short film about the history of Luban Lake, which will collect the stories of local residents about the change of lake over time, as well as a travelling photographic exhibition “Inspiration of Lubana Lake: then and now”, which will summarize the photographs of the historic and modern Luban Lake. Both the short film and the photo exhibition will be opened within the framework of the “Lake Lake Lake” event.
