Conscious of the critical situation in the affected areas in the large part of Latgale, on 19 and 20 September, Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs took another visit to Latgale region.
The Minister, together with local government leaders and specialists, met with farmers whose volumes caused by floods caused by the floods caused considerable damage in order to obtain a broader view of the extent of damage. “Floods have been badly affected by many farms in Latgale, destroying harvests and causing heavy losses to farmers. No grain, potatoes or other crops can be harvested in many flooded areas. The situation was very difficult in the second half of August, but the situation had become even more difficult in the beginning of that week. It has been reported that in the evening of 28 August in Latgale, Livans, there was an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Maris Kučinskis, leaders of local government and farmers of Latgale region, following the extensive damage caused to farmers, road infrastructure and melioration systems. Since floods have caused losses not only for local government infrastructure but also for farmers, the emergency meeting was also attended by Minister OF Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards and Agriculture Minister Duklavs. In order to deal with the situation, the Ministry of Agriculture and Transport Minister Uldis Augulis had, immediately after August, visited farms in Latgale to ascertain the damage caused by damage to farmers and roads.
On the day following the meeting in Leavans, the Cabinet of Ministers announced the emergency situation until this year. 30 November in 29 provinces in Latgale, Vidzeme and Celia (Aglona, Baltinava, Award, Ciblas, Dagda, Daugavpils, Ilūkstes, Karsava, Kraslava, Livana, Ludza, Preilu, Rezekne, Riebiņa, Ruguay, Varkava, Vilaka, Vilnius, Zilupes, Alūksne, Vilnius, Madona, Luban, Gulbene, Ceswaine, Varakana, Krustpils, Aknastes, Varakļana, Krustpils, Aknastes and Island municipality).

The next meeting of the Coordination Council at national level with THE representatives OF the Ministry of Agriculture, Transport and Finance, as well as Latgale municipalities will be held on 28 September in Riga.
MR Upenieks informed that both local government specialists and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Support are dealing with the identification of the situation and the identification of the situation of each individual farmer in order to be able to estimate the extent of the damage suffered.

By 1 October, the acceptance of the applications of farmers affected by the emergency situation and the finding of actual damage in accordance with the areas declared in 2017 in the rural support service will take place. By November 1, 2017, an informative report on total losses of farmers with proposals regarding the amount of compensation will be prepared and submitted to the Cabinet.
