Calls on the wedding stories in Old Valve
On 21 and 22 July, “Omotu stuosti” festival “Omotu stuosti” will be held in Vecvalkava and Varkava. This year is dedicated to wedding economies and their stories. Both landlords and stories who know fun from wedding and those who want to listen to them are invited to the festival.
THE Festival OF Latgale storytellers this year offers an opportunity to explore one of the most vivid and attractive traditions of Latgale – the skills of wedding housewives and their stories about unforgettable and ridiculous events from the lives of wedding landlords, clerks, musicians, cabbages or young couples. The festival will feature storytellers from various Latvian provinces and will be able to hear different dialects and skilled musicians.
On July 21, at the People's House of Varkava. 19.30 stakeholders are particularly invited to visit an anecdotal and fun-story evening “I smelled laughter.” It will be able to hear the festival storyteller Bronieislava Gavari and Valentine Machans, the women of the Old Valve folklore set, the anecdox stories from the folklore set “Vuolyudzeite”, the folklore set “Dzeipurs” and “Traistens” from the crown, as well AS UNESCO's Latvian national Commission (LNK) network “story libraries” and other stories from all over Latvia.
On 22 July at 14.00 Everyone is welcome to the festival's final event, “which did not laugh, the same thing did not fit” – the wedding stories of Latgalians and other nowadays with local folklore sets and storytellers.
The festival of Latgale stories plays a special role in the introduction of the stories traditions, enriching Latgale culture and highlighting Latgale's peculiarities in the Latvian cultural community. At the same time, the festival is concerned with the preservation, development and transfer of narrative traditions for future generations. The festival is an important part of the Latvian storyteller movement, bringing together the members of THE UNESCO LNK network “story library” throughout Latvia, the Latgale traditions common and stories interested in all Latvian provinces.
The festival is organised by the Varkava municipality council in collaboration with the traditional cultural association “Aprika”, UNESCO Latvian National Commission, the cultural and artistic association “TEIRA LATVIGOLYS MUOKSLA” and other well-being.
