The Food and Veterinary Service (PVD) has detected African swine fever (AQM) in 144 domestic pigs on the farm in Rēzekne municipality IN Griškānu parish, BNS reported TO PVD public relations specialist Anna Joffe. She pointed out that THE FVO has carried out measures to combat ASF. Within three kilometres of the affected holdings, a protection zone is laid down in a radius of three kilometres and a surveillance zone within a radius of ten kilometres. They will strengthen the controlled health status of domestic swine as well as the movement of animal transport vehicles. It is prohibited to move pigs from a holding to a holding in the protection zone, as well as to export pigs and pig meat outside the holding for at least 40 days after the destruction of the sick animals and the initial disinfection of the affected holding.

On 10 September, swine fever has also been detected in a local farm in Rēzekne municipality IN Nagļu parish, “Delfi” was reported by the head of the public relations department of the Food and Veterinary Service (PVD), Ilze Meister.

12 farms in the holding have been eliminated due to a dangerous disease.

According to Meisteres, IN THE PVD holding, measures to combat African swine fever have been carried out - a protection zone is laid down in a radius of three kilometres of the affected holdings, but in a radius of 10 kilometres -

“FVD recalls that in the event of an outbreak of disease, public compensation may be obtained if the pigs have been registered and biosecurity requirements are observed in the holding,” said Anna Joffe, adding that the introduction and execution of biosecurity requirements is the responsibility of the animal owner or keeper.
The Joffe agency BNS pointed out that the farm in Rēzekne municipality had complied with all biosecurity measures and the pigs had been registered in THE parish. “At the moment, the service specialists explain how the infection could be placed on the site,” said PVD spokesperson.
At the same time, she noted that PVD specialists have destroyed and taken all necessary measures to limit the spread of the disease.
For domestic pigs, THE ASF was last seen on 25 August.
ASF is a dangerous, highly contagious disease in porcine animals. In the animal holding where the disease is detected, the whole herd must be slaughtered, so that the outbreak of that disease causes considerable economic damage to the keepers. THE ASF is not dangerous to humans.
PVD is a public administration body under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, which carries out national supervision and control of the food chain and veterinary medicine sector.
