In the period from 23 to 29 April, a library week with a guide “changes library, changing society” will be held in Latvia. At this time, the libraries are trying to draw attention to various developments and activities. The library week after the initiative of the Latvian Library Society is marked since 1997, every year in April.
In today's changing world, it must be sufficiently brave and active to promote the processes in place in society. It must be recognised that the activities of libraries have a positive impact on the development of society. Today's library is not only an information resource store, it provides a link to a wide world, it is a place of leisure time, and in many places it is the only chance to socialize. The libraries also provide other, substantive, non-librarian, and important services for citizens – consultancy in the use of electronic services, electronic delivery of documents, printing, scanning, training in information technology acquisition and use.
During the library week, several activities will take place in the library of Rezekne municipality – open door days, information and news days, excursions to libraries, literature and other material exhibitions, competitions, quizzes, meetings and discussions, polls and other activities. In order to promote reading, which is one of the most necessary skills in human life, libraries will go to educational institutions with their offer.
From April 23, there will be a chance to meet the news in the book shelves in the library of Audrinu parish, the library of Dricana parish, the Griškana parish library, the Gaigalava parish library, the Kaunata parish in Library 1, the Lendzu parish library, the Maltese parish library, the foam parish library, the Silverish parish in the Stikana library, the Valga parish library.
The Rikava parish library will offer a literature exhibition cycle “in its world literature” - “what is new”, “Rezekne municipality in the book”, “books for all generations”.
The collection of parish libraries is not only made up of printed works, and audio-visual resources, games, free-of-charge online databases Letonika and Lursoft “newspaper library” are also offered, a broader approach to the digital resources of the Latvian National Library (LNB), which will be populated during this week.
