With Latgale and Latgalic

Every year in the lives of every cultural house involves a number of traditional events - both annual festivals, public holidays and other festivals, events and events. That is why, from time to time, in this traditional rite, it is so much to bring new storms, creating something unprecedented and different. At the end of last year, when planning the events of the 2020 season, the idea of creating an unprecedented event in Ozolaine parish and Rezekne - the Latgalian Olympics, the thematic enrollment, and the choice of the guideline all about and around Latgale and Latgale.
On 28 February, an event called “Channel olimpiade” was held in the Ozolaine cultural house. We wanted the event to include art, music, and the spirit of Latgalian kitchen and a bit of competition, examining the knowledge of the participants of the event about Latgale geography, history, culture, and the language itself. But, most importantly, it is a pleasure to be together among the like-minded and those who feel belonging to Latgale, the Latgalian.
When the idea of the event was ready, we invited anyone who calls himself a Latgalian, anyone who feels the Latgalian and anyone who wants to be in this event among other likes to participate in it. We received a lot of good words about the idea of the event, but at the same time we also concluded that many are concerned that there will be no knowledge in one or another of the issues related to Latgale and Latgale. As a result, seven teams, “Gosti” (Rēzekne), “Rogovkieši” (Nautrenes civil parish), “Talcinnamki” (the parish of pušas), “Sovskis” (“Ozolaines” and “Veremu parish” Joint team), “Cukalkys” (“Kaunata parish”), and “Streichi” (Vilnius parish parish) have applied for participation in the event.
As we approached the day of the Olympics, we took a beautiful gift to all the participants. In the Stonislava Vilnius Workstation, in particular the winners of the Olympic Games, the tasks were printed, the ancient club “fire” came in talks, baking ancient time biscuits “fungi” and “walnut”. On the day of the holidays, the apple pie was cooked by his hands, so that when the visitors came, a tasty smell of the People's House would be filled with the smell of hospitality. There was white bread, soup, and milk in a mug, trying to create a feeling like my grandmother's countryside after a wall of hay. His place between the decorations is also caused by coarse bread, fat, bulbs, garlic and chmakovsky, like the Latgalian visitor's waiting table.
The event was discovered by a lyric introduction - the artist and the painting of Jane Gavares's painting and her lyric singing. Each of Jane's song had a special meaning, a particular idea why this song had come and what she wanted to say to every listener, and there was a lot of the truth of a certain life, which, however, had so little attention to the day. She was also surprised by the painting of Jane's bright, cheerful dzīvespriecīgos, and the careful weave of Jura Gavar, who added the exhibition.
When the introduction had sounded, it was time for the teams to present themselves. Each team told him about himself, presenting the name, the motto, and his homework. The team was not given the traditional task of arriving with a song, dance, or other performances, but to think about what they seem to be a real latgalic food, make it and take it as a village. A specially designed place in the hall was dedicated to the Latgalian table, where the homework was enriched so that they would then enjoy them all together and feel the taste and diversity of the Latgalic kitchen. Several of the teams had made a long-forgotten, non-conscious, but latgalic cooking meal, the name of which, as it turned out, had been different in various parishes, such as the Kaunata parish association's team not only brought their assholes, but also told them that they were called “kukolkys” on their side, and they also had the name of the team. Another team in the homework had prepared and brought “peas-ocks”, complementing the food with the knowledge of how valuable our own grey peas were. A boiled potato, a curd and a herring of herring, was also placed in the table. Another team brought good Latgalian potato salad, another, a real, infinite taste of linseed oil in Latgale. Of_course, the baked bread and other delicacy were missing in the table, as each team had tried to honour the homework.
When the teams had presented themselves, they could finally catch up with the part of which they were most afraid of the Olympics. The teams had eight tasks, which included both the solving of the crossword puzzle, the correct interpretation of ancient Latgalian words, and the composition of the words and the insertion of missing words in the folk songs, and the teams had to answer various questions about the history of Latgale, geography, culture, the world of music, significant personalities, etc. The teams also received a map of Rezekne's municipality, where the location of the municipality of Rezekne (the largest municipality of Latvia) was to be noted during a limited period. More sophisticated tasks with simpler, such as linking the ancient names of trees and food to the corresponding explanations, as well as the matching of folk songs to previously prepared drawings. Also, without the use of modern technology - a representative from each team had to go ahead, put a Bluetooth headset on his head, listen to the song heard in them, and play it, while the team's task was to remember this song. With more sophisticated and lighter tasks, a little more than an hour, the teams were all at all.
While the jury carried out an assessment of the answers, the Olympics invited them to sing together the traditional Latvian honorary song “Pi Distance Long goldi”, and then the guests were able to respect both freshly baked cottage pancakes or “syrnacks” and taste delicacy from the tempting latgalic food table.
But it was time to announce the results of the Olympics. First we said very much to each team who took part in our competitions, giving a box of delicious, Latgale apples from the Z/S “cherry” in Lendes. After the results of the joint evaluation, we concluded that all the teams had fought very well and showed similar results. Between 1 st and 7 th, there was only a little more than 10 points among the winners, but even greater similarity between the 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th places. The 4 th place with 89 points was acquired by the “Gosti” team from Rezekne, the 3 rd place laurus with 89.5 points flowed by the “Rogovkins” team from Nautrene parish, 2 nd place with the result - 90 points received the team “Streichi” from the decks, while the victory with 90.5 points was flown by Ozolaine and Veremu parish Joint team “Sovary eicys”. 1-3 rd winners received gifts for special Olympics. When the winners were cleared and plunged, the popular Latgalian group Dabasu Durovys was welcomed by all the members of the Olympics.
Thank you very much for any team who took part in the event! Thank you for your sincere words, for the jokes that came out over the evening, about the rusty delicious meals, the sweet, warm, friendly atmosphere that was spelled out in these festivals! Thanks also to the competent jury - a long Smane, Ināra Blinov, Valentine Malière, thank the ladies of the Senior Club for the crushing of ancient biscuits, thank the housewife Valentine Cucurei for the thicket pancakes, or “syrugkim”, thank the ceramic Stanislav Vilnius for the beautiful buckets and all the others who put their helpful hand in the process of the event.
By creating something new, it is always a little scared, whether it will succeed, how it will succeed and what will come from it. But again and again it is shown that when the “real” people come together, the “real” atmosphere comes and everything succeeds!
