Education

Four years, 75 Latvian cities and parishes, lectures & visits in 92 schools & technicums, 30 + excellent Latvian cooks & experts, 5786 pupils & young people: The Vistatia project will conclude with such statistics - IN which young people in an attractive way through THE EU food law prism took decision-making IN THE EU.
The final event with 18 schools, including Dricānu secondary schools, took place on Friday, 25 January. 14:30, Riga State 3 rd Gymnasium. It was directed by the head of the culinary show la Dolce Vita, Roberto melons.
“Everyone finds a common language at the table, there is no border!” We're all the same at the table, no matter where we come from! Those who think Europe is big and different – it is not. I studied philology. When you had to choose a new language to learn, i selected the Latvian language as it is one of the oldest languages of the world. At first i came to the Italian language for eight months, but i have been in Latvia for 17 years. What do i like in Latvia? The people are kind, polite, honest, very careful, and never stop. The Latvians don't open at once, but when they open – then to life! "said Roberto melons.
The cook Raivo Behman, as an expert in the Project SPIRITUAL LAWS, was engaged in 2017, and the event shared his experience and recommendations for a more spiritual life. He associates laws and cooking with responsibility and work: “laws and food may be delicious if it works!” So is the relationship. At first there is a period of pink spectacles, but at some point you realize that it is no longer so cool. Everything depends on you - work and go through the difficult period or not! Yesterday, as i climbed the stairs, i realized that i was more boring in the past half-year, but i don't want it to stay. I'm determined not to violate my faith and to think about how to build Latvian products! '
Given the rapidly approaching European elections (Latvia - 25.05.2019), the menu of the event will be devoted to this topic. In addition to being able to listen to experienced experts and taste the laws, they were able to participate in four exciting masters:
1 st masterclass - “European electoral butter”. He was led by the blogger and the Latvian table cultural scientist Karlinna Latson. What would Carlin make on the day of the election? “I'll make pumpkin pancakes with a jam jam on the European election day.” Taste - exclusive, bears grow in marshes, which are Latvian pride and are not common in Europe, while the pumpkin can be grown in every small garden. Colour - yellow orange, meaning education and wisdom. Form - small round forms like sunshine - joy and happiness! '
2. masters class “GMOs in food: myths and truth”. He was a member of the SkeptiCafe of SkeptiCafe. He called for pupils to be critical in discussing and talking about nutrition and food: “often people are keeping their opinions on nutrition as closely as their religion.” And if GMOs are to be used in the conversation, then the emotion sit high. At this point, we must remember that opinions can be different, but the facts are all alone. We must stick to the facts in order to protect my myths. Science is the best tool of humanity for detecting and interpreting them. '
Class 3 “Orientation in the world of food and experiments”. Led by the cooking and proficiency enthusiastic Ilze Stangaine. Ilze said, “It's worth experimenting in the kitchen because it can reveal new flavours of taste and unthinkable combinations of flavours that come even further in the world of food.”
4. masterclass “photography of food”. The photographer was directed by Andra Martha Babre. She, along with the pupils, searched for the most delicious light and the most successful angles: “for the food to look delicious, the most important thing is to find a good light!”
THE SPIRITUAL LAWS - 4 years!
The SPIRITUAL LAWS of the European Parliament started in Latvia 4 years ago - on 30 April 2015, at Dricānu High School in the Eco-School, the spiritual laws were enjoyed on 25 April 2017. It is dedicated to the decisions taken by the European Parliament in the field of food safety in three main areas: allergens, genetically modified organisms and new foods.
The main objectives of the project were:

  • TO FIND out who is genetically modified food and whether it is present in Latvia?
  • A PICTURE of how the European Parliament's decisions improve the quality of life of allergic people?
  • FIND out what the new food is and how can it improve the health of Latvian citizens?
  • RAISE AWARENESS of the role of decision-making bodies, state, municipal and catering professionals in the care of the people of Latvia and other European Union countries.

Within the framework of the project, in collaboration with the State Education and Content Centre and the European Parliament Bureau of Food and Veterinary Services, the Bureau of the European Parliament developed specialised educational materials for each of the three themes: educational material on allergens, GMOs, new food.
