In November 2018, the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg almost unanimously approved the allocation of €17,7 million to Latvia from THE EU Solidarity Fund for the 2017 flood relief. Mr Inese Vaidere, Member of THE EPP fraction, is responsible for granting these funds to the European Parliament.
The European Parliament's Member, Professor I. Vaidere, stresses that this funding is particularly important for Baltinava, Varkava, Carlos, Alūksne, Rezekne and other Latgale provinces, who suffered the most in the 2017 floods. At present, EUR 13,7 million has been allocated from the Solidarity Fund to the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent the damage caused by the floods caused by floods, while the Ministry of Transport has been granted four million euros for improvement and strengthening of national road and water offspring systems.
It is mandatory for Latvia to use these funds within 18 months.
