Is January 19, 2018. Memories of memories and fires at Jānis Kco's Sakstagala elementary school news of events in our country 27 years ago - the fatal days of January 1991.
The opening day starts with an historic hour in the school hall, led by the history teacher Inta Decsne and all watching the video for barricades in Riga. Then everyone, both pupils and teachers, went out to gather at the fire, which was assembled by the boys of Classes 8 and 9. Each class sings his chosen song and warms the fire. The known songs sound like the songs of all school pupils. And there is a feeling of unity, and the January frost doesn't seem so strong.
Big boys bring tea and white bread from the canteen. We warm up with tea and discuss the distant events. Drivers are driving us with car signals as they drive past the school. A member of the barricades from Viļāniem (Juris Tuch) joins our school event at the fire. “You're a malaise,” a member of the barricades.
And i want to believe it. The fact that at least for a moment we have learned better from our history.
